Donald Trump Compares Himself to Billy Graham; Says 'My Favorite Book Is the Bible'

Republican presidential front-runner Donald Trump looked at the crowd gathered for his rally at a 40,000-seat college football stadium in Mobile, Alabama, saying he now knows how evangelist Billy Graham felt. He also said the book he likes the most is the Bible.

"I know how Billy Graham felt," Trump, a billionaire businessman, said, apparently jokingly, as he began his speech at Ladd-Peebles Stadium.

Trump also said, "What's my favorite book? The Bible! The Bible. ... We take the Bible all the way," according to The Washington Post's national political reporter Robert Costa, who tweeted the Republican candidate's remarks.

Anticipating a big turnover, Trump's campaign had to change the venue at the eleventh hour, to the football stadium. Trump was planning to hold the rally at the Mobile Civic Center arena, which seats only about 10,000 people, according to Yahoo News.

His campaign, which was expecting a crowd of about 35,000 people at the rally Friday night, also arranged for free shuttle buses, according to Mobile Press-Register.

"We have politicians that don't have a clue," Trump, who was wearing a red hat with his slogan, "Make America Great Again," written on it, said. "They're all talk, no action. What's happening to this country is disgraceful."

The Republican frontrunner added: "We're running on fumes. There's nothing here. ... We're not going to have a country left. We need to have our borders. We need to make great deals."

Talking about illegal immigration, he said, "We've gotta stop it. We're going to build a wall."

"In the case of other countries, including Mexico, you can't walk over the border and have a new citizen," he added. "We're the only place just about that's stupid enough to do it."

At the Family Leadership Summit in Iowa last month, Trump was asked about his faith.

"People are so shocked when they find out I am Protestant. I am Presbyterian. And I go to church and I love God and I love my church," he said.

Asked whether he has ever asked God to forgive him, Trump responded, "I am not sure I have. I just go on and try to do a better job from there. I don't think so. I think if I do something wrong, I think, I just try and make it right. I don't bring God into that picture. I don't."

He further explained, "When I drink my little wine — which is about the only wine I drink — and have my little cracker, I guess that is a form of asking for forgiveness, and I do that as often as possible because I feel cleansed. I think in terms of 'let's go on and let's make it right.'"

Talking to CNN later, Trump denied that his statements damaged his chances with Evangelical voters, and said his polling in Iowa is very strong. However, he added that he'd "change" his "tone" as president. "Right now I'm trying to do something to make this country great again."

“Do you know who Trump’s pastor was ?”

In a couple of his interviews, he clearly said that his pastor was Norman Vincent Peale.

Just because a man does works of righteousness does that make him holy.

So you admit he has done works of righteousness ? No one said that made him holy... but you.

Compare Benjamin Carson to Donald trump - One announces his good deeds while the other keeps his deeds quiet.

Just because the media publishes an article about Trump doesn't mean he's announcing it. His answer about the Bible was due to being ASKED what his favorite book was , and was months ago.

One operated on the brains of children

What if you found out that Carson had to 'experiment' on the brains from aborted babies to 'improve his skills' ?

while the other stole property from elderly women under eminent domain to build a Casino.

Complete LIE.

He didn't steal it, he tried to use legal means.
In any event, he lost the case and the woman lived out her life in that home. It was recently sold (by her kin) for around $125,000. (She had been offered $1,000,000 to vacate).

I know there will be others whom claim that Carson belonging to the Seventh day adventist Denomination should exclude him because it is not a Christian church. That's all on you, buddy. I've never heard anyone else mention it.

But what about Trump’s limited attendance at a Presbyterian Church.

I don't remember him saying he was perfect, and I doubt any of us are either. I man in his position has responsibilities that 'trump' making it to church every Sunday. I don't remember Jesus saying one had to attend church every Sunday.

Now Trump claims he is like Billy Graham. What hubris to claim he is like Billy Graham!

Again, that is not what he said. He said he understood how Billy Graham felt. The 'reference' is to entering a large auditorium and speaking from your heart, like Billy Graham did.

Thanks, but if I wanted an answer from someone who was paying attention, had read the article, and was a generally well informed, open-minded person, I would have asked you.

: )

Wait. I think I figured it out.

You figured Trump would never put up with a foul mouthed preacher.

True. And if you read post #102, you will see who his minister/pastor was.

I would say a person like that could be very inspiring to a young man.

>> I wonder if he could recite The Lords Prayer. Even Presbyterians ask for forgiveness therein <<

Well, Trump claims to be Presbyterian.

If he really is, then he probably won’t be able to recite the Lord’s Prayer correctly — since everybody knows that the Presbos are confused about debts and trespasses.

I was just trying to make the point that no way would Trump countenance a pastor like Obama’s who cursed America. That is all, I have no idea who might be the pastor at the church Trump attends.
