A surprise weekend trip to Washington to meet with Sen. Elizabeth Warren (D., Mass.), a darling of the partys liberal wing, represented a pivot from potential to likely candidate, one Biden supporter said.
Vice President Joe Biden, who has long been considering a presidential bid, is increasingly leaning toward entering the race if it is still possible he can knit together a competitive campaign at this late date, people familiar with the matter said.
Mr. Biden is weighing multiple political, financial and family considerations before making a final decision. But conversations about the possibility were a prominent feature of an August stay in South Carolina and his home in Delaware last week, these people said.
The vice president has not made a decision about his political future, Biden spokeswoman Kendra Barkoff said.
Mr. Biden would enter as a clear underdog. Polling shows Democratic front-runner Hillary Clinton running far ahead of the vice president, who would be building a campaign team largely from scratch. Mrs. Clinton, who declared her candidacy four months ago, has a robust campaign operation and an outside super PAC raising money on her behalf.
Donald Trump is shaping the contours of the race, GOP strategist Kevin Madden said. Hes controlling the tempo of this race and the other campaigns cant cede that power to him.
Still, the vice presidents deliberations illustrate how both major parties campaigns are in a state of flux. Democrats are increasingly insecure about Mrs. Clintons candidacy, given her dipping approval ratings and continuing questions about her use of a private email server while secretary of state. Republicans, meanwhile, are struggling to find the proper tone in reacting to Donald Trump, whose no-holds-barred campaign style is dominating coverage of the GOP contest and nudging top contenders into uncomfortable sound bites.

Officially, he will be a candidate for the Democrat nomination. The Warren thing is pre campaign fodder much like with the Clintons’ “With one vote you get two!” schtick back when. All it really does is to severely limit his options come nomination time should he need a running mate that can actually pull in more electoral votes than Warren’s MA.
If he wins the nomination, he’ll then officially announce she’s his running mate, but he’ll just be acting on what he’d promised early on (if that is the case.)
If anything illustrates that the destruction of the Democratic Party is now complete, it is this development.
Won’t Joe have to run against Obama somewhat? At least he speaks without a hint of Negro dialect. And he’s clean. Maybe he can tan a lot and get a little darker.
If he dives in too soon, he will alienate the Hillary-backing women who so badly want a female in the WH. He’ll be seen as the one who put the “shiv in her ribs”.
Jeez. What a circus.
a darling of the partys liberal wing, eeeech!
Biden went to see Warren at the direction of Obama to convince her to run for president.
You could make millions!
