American-Israeli actress implies Holocaust not any more horrific than other genocides around the world.
It's time for the Jewish community to shift focus away from the Holocaust, American-Israeli actress Natalie Portman opined Friday, stating that such focus has detracted from atrocities committed around the world.
I think a really big question the Jewish community needs to ask itself, is how much at the forefront we put Holocaust education," Portman stated in an interview with the British Independent. "Which is, of course, an important question to remember and to respect, but not over other things."
Portman revealed that her views stemmed from her learning about the Rwandan Genocide.
"I was shocked that that [genocide] was going on while I was in school," she said. "We were learning only about the Holocaust and it was never mentioned and it was happening while I was in school."
"That is exactly the type of problem with the way its taught," she continued. "I think it needs to be taught, and I cant speak for everyone because this was my personal education."
We need to be reminded that hatred exists at all times and reminds us to be empathetic to other people that have experienced hatred also," Portman urged. "Not used as a paranoid way of thinking that we are victims."
"Sometimes it can be subverted to fear-mongering and like Another Holocaust is going to happen," she added.
Portman was born in Jerusalem; her family emigrated to the US when she was three years-old, where she would later attend American Jewish schools.

taking stock of all the Jewish people we know,
most of them concentrate on their faith and trying to live a moral life and trying to protect Israel (as part of God’s will and so there is not another Shoah/Holacaust).
Of course, there is the JINO type who works against these things (just like the RINO type works against legitimate conservative principles).
The mass murders of WW2 will always remain part of world history, and in the consciousness of the survivors. Nobody can tell people to forget their past (so the lady misunderstands what she’s trying to talk about), but the focus of all the Jews we know is on faith in God and building a better today and tomorrow.
What does the dumb bi0tch have to say about the Christians being slaughtered and sold into slavery in the ME?????
And in the meantime, actual Judaism is being forgotten.
More Jews know the names Auschwitz and Dachau than Rachel and Leah.
More can tell you the number killed in the Holocaust than the number of laws God commanded of us in the Bible.
More can tell you the details of the construction of gas chambers than the construction of sukkah.
There is great value in historical investigation and education, but a monomaniacal focus of such intensity that it usurps the Jewish identity is unhealthy.
"I was shocked that that [genocide] was going on while I was in school," she said. "We were learning only about the Holocaust and it was never mentioned and it was happening while I was in school."
Rwanda did not fit the liberal paradigm that all of the problems of the Black man are the result of white racism & oppression. Rwanda was Tribalism, which the Western liberal either discounts or is totally ignorant of.
Secondly, the Holocaust was a cold, methodical attempt to totally obliterate an entire people, not "ethnic cleansing" brought on by years of cultural friction and fueled by raw emotion.
Today's Jews fear that Santayana's dictum, Those who cannot remember the past are condemned to repeat it, is true in their case. With resurgent Islam vowing to wipe Israel off the face of the earth, who can accuse the Jews of being paranoid or of obsessing about the Holocaust?
Or at least sick of hearing it being co-opted by everyone with a cause.
An attractive liberal. Pretty rare, but it happens.
I wonder if Huma has any chin cuts with that overbite.
As for attention to other mass murders, she has a point, But does she know or would she even care about the holodomor? And what about the 50 million killed in China via Mao's Great leap forward? There was a film about the Cambodian auto holocaust, but that Hollywood film was lousy with its praise of Sidney Schanberg. It didn't show Schanberg pushing Dith Pran to stay in Cambodia; nor did it show him singing that ditty almost all the reporters sang, mocking a Khymer Rouge massacre in response to American embassy briefings.
The face and body are attractive but the mind and morals have vacated the premises. Superficially lovely as she may be (leading Hollywood actresses are seldom dog meat), would you trust her to be the mother of your children or to be your wife during your decline in old age?
A late 1960s leftist college student using drugs? Say it isn’t so!
I don’t agree that she is aging well.
I see the same thing in another beautiful actress. Kristen Kreuk was stunning in “Smallville” but I recently saw her in “Beauty and the Beast” and she is going downhill fairly rapidly. Still not ugly, (either of them) bu the bloom of youth is off.
Michael Savage has eviscerated the Jewish community for standing silent in the face of the Christian and Yazidi slaughter in the Middle East.
He states that it immoral to say that it should never happen again, then stay silent as it happens again, making it look like they only care when it happens to them.
“Yeah... I cant wait for her to run for President”
I assume you mean in Israel, against Bebe...the PM...
Never again is now.
I wonder what part of ‘Never Forget. Never Again’ she doesn’t understand.
Sure. Whatever it takes.
Well said, my friend
Just stating that she was a nice looking young lady, no matter how misguided her views are.
WWII and the camps were just the most recent in a long succession of attempts to exterminate the Jewish people.
What the Jews and Christians alike need to concern themselves with is the next wave of persecution we heading for.
