Unarmed US Marine 'in critical condition' after Kalashnikov-wielding suspected terrorist on board high-speed train between Amsterdam and Paris.
An unarmed US Marine who ambushed a Kalashnikov-wielding gunman on a train between Amsterdam and Paris is in critical condition, according to French media reports.
The serviceman, who has not been named, was one of two Americans who tackled the 26-year-old Moroccan national to the ground after hearing him load up a gun in the toilet.
In the scuffle, one of the Marines was shot and another stabbed. France Info reports one is in a critical condition.
Addressing reporters at the station in Arras, northern France, Interior Minister Bernard Cazeneuve said: 'I would like to express our gratitude to and admiration for these two American passengers.'
He added: 'Thanks to the calm composure of the two American passengers, we have avoided a tragedy. 'Without them we would have face something terrible.'

They deserve combat medals no doubt. Taking on a goat humper with an AK unarmed is no different than jumping on a grenade, IMO.
motives unclear??
“The 26-year-old Moroccan national is friggen ISLAMIC TERRORIST!!!”
Slovakia doesn’t want them. Go figger.
The french deserve to speak arabic. What I’m worried about, is at the rate we’re going, WE will be speaking arabic (in an Ebonics influenced variant) soon.
That medal is in league with the Silver Star, only it's the highest decoration for non-combat life-saving or other heroic peacetime exploits. It's higher than the Bronze Star.
The US Marine Corps is going to make a pretty big deal about these Marines, you better believe.
May they recover quickly. Semper Fi, bros.
The marine shot is in critical condition. Marine stabbed serious but not life threatening. Actor "lightly wounded."
All according to linked Mirror article.
You just know he was planning on massacring the whole train.
The Marines should both get the Navy Cross for valor.
Those are OUR BOYS. The French are VERY LUCKY to have them riding on that train, considering their immigration policies. But I do appreciate them understanding who saved them from what would have been a tragic event.
Marines always stepping into the breach. I’ll bet not one of those cheese eating surrender monkeys helped.

Some people spend an entire lifetime wondering if they made a difference in the world. But, the Marines don’t have that problem. Ronald Reagan
LOL, these guys have motivated the military and inspired the rest of us. They deserve the kiss and medals but watch, they will be humble as usual.
I'm going to guess that, even in France, there would be no shortage of young attractive women willing to show their gratitude to the Marines. For free.
Lighten up Sandy....geez
Btw
Nubile women have availed themselves to their military savior and the victorious since time immemorial including coincidentally french girls after liberation by the Allies
If that offends you take it up with history
SEMPER FI
GETTING THE FLAG AND GONNA RUN 10K
UUUURRRRRAAAHHHH
I'd like to see the recruiting numbers for the 30 days prior to today and those for the next 30 days.
Oooh RAH!
Well done, Marines! Semper Fi!
It also happened in Germany as the Soviets advanced into the center of the Reich. There actually was one real firefight between some armored cavalry and the Russians over the Russians desire to um ‘make use of’ the students at a girls boarding school. I understand the GI’s received a very warm vote of gratitude from the student body.
God Bless and heal our brave US Marines.
