No, tariffs are a direct hit on the importing country’s cost of goods purchased and raise prices to the importing country’s consumer. There is no direct affect on the exporting country.

However, an indirect affect of the tariff may be lower demand because of the artificially higher prices it has created, but there are alternatives for the exporting country. There is certainly no direct affect of an importing country’s tariff on the exporting country’s quality, efficiency, or profit. Only the possibly of lower demand from the importing country which over time will feel pressure from other competing countries who keep their tariffs down.

If ALL countries have high tariffs, then yes there is a negative affect all around. But that is not how the real world operates. Any country with half a brain should realize that it is to their advantage to do away with tariffs regardless of what other countries do.

Please quit referring me to comparative advantage without explanation because that is not an argument. As I said, I’ve studied this stuff. You’ve got to be able to analyze and give reasonable arguments yourself explaining why you disagree with what I am saying. So far you’ve only made assertions and haven’t provided an analysis or explanation of where my reasoning is faulty.

So you save a .7 cents on your next Nabisco cookie purchase while million have no jobs in the U.S. This is a fair trade off?

If what we have today is working so well why do quality imported vehicles cost $50,000+ and up? Where is the big saving? Will new vehicles imported from Mexico be better and be real cheap and reasonably priced. Mexico is costing America tens of hundreds of billions due to their total disrespect for our laws and rules. And we should reward them by making them prosper while America declines? Do you think Communist China is our freind who should be rewarded?

Enough is enough !

It is a fact that multinational companies have been exporting manufacturing jobs, importing workers, and charging first world prices for third world goods.

It’s also a fact that tariffs can help fix this situation to the benefit of American citizens. Tariffs have worked in the past and they very likely will work again in the future.
