Former president Jimmy Carter said that the cancer doctors discovered earlier this year, on his liver, has spread to his brain and that he will receive his first radiation treatment for the disease Thursday afternoon.
"I'm perfectly at ease with whatever comes," Carter said at a news conference.
Carter, 90, said Thursday that doctors found "four spots of melanoma on my brain -- small spots" after first discovering cancer during an Aug. 3 operation to remove a tumor from his liver.
During that surgery, Carter said, doctors suspected that the cancer had originated in other parts of his body. They later discovered the melanoma spots, about "two millimeters" in size, on his brain.
Doctors removed about one-tenth of his liver during the surgery, which he said healed quickly and left him with "minimal pain."
He will undergo four courses of radiation to treat the cancer in his brain.
Carter said doctors will continue to scan his body for cancer, in an effort to determine where the melanoma originated.

Advice from my sainted Grand Mother.
Prayers for your brother... and for President Carter.... and those that love and care for them... may they all find God’s comfort and peace...
I hardly agree with Jimmy’s politics... but I pray He has made His peace with the Lord... because in the end it is between God and him....
“After letting Pahlavi die of cancer in 1980, this could be considered Gods retribution for Carter.”
You nailed it!
Karma’s a bitch, Jimmah.
I agree. He has lived a long life - will be 91 the first of October, I watched is news conference and he seemed to be basking in the publicity - smiling broadly, and surprisingly, was quite articulate. I wish him no ill will, and think some on here are rather rude for the mean remarks. Agree with his politics or not - he is going through a lot.
I won’t pray for his recovery. I don’t rightly care if he is comfortable. God will judge him, that’s good enough for me, and far more gracious than he or I or anyone else deserves. Until then, I look forward to the day he becomes a good democrat.
He put a lot of people through a lot. He will be judged soon. While I don't wish him ill, I do await the day he becomes a good democrat.

Jimmy Carter defined the twisted combination of evil caused by good intentions and evil caused by knee-jerk antisemitism. He was a worthless president, like the one we have now.
God will provide jimmah with what he deserves, I will not pray for his recovery nor his peace in the after life, because I would mean either of those prayers.
When he is dead, I will not miss him, but I wouldn't walk across the cemetery to piss on his grave, but if it were close by...
He’s 90 years old. Why undergo surgery, chemo and all the other treatments at this age? I have never understood why older people put their body through this for so little gain. I have managed to live a generally good life for three quarters of a century and have been prepared to go to Heaven for most of that time. If I become ill, infirm or unable to function at something resembling normal, I hope God chooses to take me right then.
Well, it depends who’s deciding what is productive. a 90 year old leftist former president that can get media attention bashing Republicans, Jews and America has a tremendous amount of ‘value’ to the system of needs. He probably would get care. A 90 year old Republican would be gone.
Pack a lunch; you might have to wait in line.
Sorry for the loss of your daughter.
It’s radiation treatments. No way he could survive chemo at his age.
I’m more surprised that he hasn’t had some other form of cancer due to his deployment on nuclear submarines.
Also I thought melanoma was a form skin cancer?
It starts as skin cancer.
It metastasizes from there.
Got that.
But they make it sound as though it started in his liver and spread from there so that doesn’t sound like melanoma.
Could be.
I haven’t been paying attention to this.
I can only imagine how terrible this must be. I wouldn’t wish it on my worst enemy. I’ll be praying for him and his family.
I simply pray God provide him with His peace and comfort period. None of us deserve it. I think of 2 Corinthians 1:3-4, which reads, "Praise be to the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Father of compassion and the God of all comfort, who comforts us in all our troubles, so that we can comfort those in any trouble with the comfort we ourselves receive from God."
Well, maybe————LOL!
Sure there is—just go to sleep one night and don’t wake up.
That’s what happened to my 100 yr. old grandfather.
