The city of Chicago is proposing a $5.5 million reparations package for those who suffered under the ruthless rule of police commander Jon Burge from 1972 to 1991. Backed by Mayor Rahm Emanuel, the plan would supply victims with free college tuition, counseling for drug abuse and psychological issues, and include a formal apology from the city, according to the Chicago Tribune.
While the plan appears to be an attempt to reckon with part of the city's less-than-spotless past, Thursday evening Fox Business Network's Charles Payne said he's afraid nationwide slavery reparations might be next.
"The news in my mind is a glimpse of really much bigger news that is going to come from the White House," he said. "I think that there’s going to be an official apology from the White House for slavery in America and then there's going to be a major push to get cash. And I’m talking lots of cash.”

Maybe the descendants of freed slaves should pay reparations to the descendants of those who fought and died to free their ancestors. Otherwise, they would still be enslaved.

I think the point Nathan Bedford was making is your comment on “anyone emigrating after 1863 and their descendants” still clarifies nothing without detailed genealogical records.
Example: my husband’s family only talked about being second generation Italians, because of his mother. Thus, disqualifying him from having to pay to slaves, right? But then we look at his dad’s family, and there are more late 19th century/early 20th century immigrants, but then we find a solitary link...back to the coastal regions of Va in 1639 (the hotbed of colonial slavery).
Does it matter if 95% of your ancestors were late-comers to the US if you have one potential slave owner?
Imagine: just going back to the early 1800’s, regardless of where your family was at the time, you’d have over 100 great-great-great-great-great (give or take a great) grandparents. Would you need proof that each of these individuals (and then back to the early half of the 1600’s when the US first began to import slaves) was slave free?
Think the IRS employs lots of people? Just imagine the Department of Genealogy!
Then to go further: if someone fought (and died= extra negative points?) in the Civil War on the Union side, how many potential slave owning ancestors can that wipe out.
The entire thing is a farce that is merely red meat to wave in front of the BLM crowd.
Let’s just deal with this issue...we just need to pay....

In that case, the black community needs to pay reparations for all the black-on-white crime. That should be our standard response whenever some idiot opens his mouth about reparations.

I thought President Monroe created Liberia as reparations for freed slaves. Give them all a one way ticket to the land of paradise where white crackas aren’t in charge.

Just make sure that $400,000 is cash put into a carry on bag. I am damn sure when they land in Africa in the country of their choice that money will make it through customs and all will work out for them......lol
They live in the one country in the world that will put up with this BS. Like many have said; “If you don’t like it here, leave and don’t let the doorknob hit you in the ass.”
And our supine Congress, under the leadership of Bonehead and McCommie, will likely go along.
It could get very complicated. I know of one ancestor who owned some slaves because I saw them mentioned in his will. But my Scots-Irish Covenanter ancestors abhorred slavery, and my 2nd great-grandfather served in the Union Army for the entire Civil War, right down to Sherman’s March. That should count for something. Throw into the mix the wild card of my Catawba ancestors, and I think maybe I should get some dough coming my way.
I think the DNC should pay my family reparations. It was because of Roosevelt’s hatred for the Jews that we were allowed to be escorted to the camps for extermination.
If he wants us (whitey?) to pay reparations, how about finding the black families whose ancestors had slaves. They should be made to pay their “fair share” into the kitty.
