Shortly after Donald Trump released his immigration policy proposal on Monday, Wisconsin Gov. Scott Walker assured reporters that he agreed with Trump's opposition to "birthright citizenship." The Huffington Post did a quick count and figured that at least five other 2016 Republicans did, too.
"Birthright citizenship" is the idea, introduced in the 14th Amendment, that people born on American soil are automatically American citizens. As Wonkblog's Max Ehrenfreund noted on Monday, there are likely only two ways that the practice could be overturned.
The first would be to somehow convince the Supreme Court to overturn the 1898 ruling, United States v. Wong Kim Ark, which established how the 14th Amendment would be enforced. The first clause in the amendment states that "All persons born or naturalized in the United States, and subject to the jurisdiction thereof, are citizens of the United States and of the state wherein they reside."
Ratified in 1868, the clause was meant to ensure that freed slaves were considered American citizens. Wong was born in San Francisco to Chinese parents, which the Court ruled was sufficient to make him a citizen.

Birthright citizenship is limited by “subject to the jurisdiction thereof.” Illegal aliens, being invaders from other countries, are not “subject to the jurisdiction thereof.” “Anchor babies” should not be considered citizens.
Nearly impossible? Don’t tempt Trump. LBJ knew how to manhandle Congress into doing what he wanted. I think Trump will be more effective.

It is definitely NOT impossible. The 14th amendment was “construed” by the Courts to include any baby born on US soil whether or not its parents were US citizens, intended to live here, become US citizens, etc.
Obviously when a foreign person comes though the USA and incidentally give birth, the child is not considered a “natural born citizen” of the USA. This is such as a tourist, a diplomat, etc.
The people “legitimately” voting on the Amendment would be USA citizens. It may well pass.

ok now Walker decides to say this after reading it in Trump’s immigration plan. Too late . We see it for what it is. Walker and none of the others running, only Trump is saying he will deport all illegals.
Out of those running Trump is the only one saying he will deport all illegals. Why arent the others saying it? Because they are owned by big donors and lobbyists.

Sorry Mr. Bump but the 14th Amendment does not permit anchor baby citizenship. That is not in any way shape or form what the amendment was intended to do and it’s only a poorly reasoned court decision that has made the practice allowable. Seems like reversing that practice is a good First Executive Order. Of course President Trump would have to completely clean out the executive levels of ICE and DHS first...but I trust he plans to do that any way.

I think birthright is an important aspect of our culture and society.
Problem is if you are an illegal alien, birthright doesn’t fly. Anchor babies need not apply. If you are illegal, your bloodline is illegal.
