The Washington chattering class is perplexed and bedeviled by a political alien by the name of Donald Trump, who just doesnt have the good manners to die, no matter how hard they try to kill him. No, like The Terminator, he keeps on coming, advancing through the fusillade of snide and snarky bullets, oblivious to the ad hominem walls of fire in his path, and immune to their favorite weapon: rhetorical condescension and ridicule.
Yet, for some inexplicable reason, the more Trump is bashed the more people love him.
Why? Hes brash, not polished. Hes vulgar, not erudite. Hes a recent convert to the faith, not a lifetime conservative Republican. Hes politically incorrect, neither nuanced nor fluent in Orwellian doublethink. Hes even harsh at times to his adversaries, not disingenuously charming (like he who shall not be named).
Yet all those qualities seem to make him all the more endearing to many folks.
How can this be? ....

Great essay.
The media mentioned in the article is the complicit media. After the debate, ‘the media’ were burying Trump.
And to Trump’s credit, he had his connections come out swinging about the obviously prejudiced moderators of that debate. And to underscore their prejudice, ‘the media’ networks proclaimed Carly Fiorina the winner, a candidate who hadn’t even been in the debate.
But Trump and Trump’s connections received serious support from one source....the new media. Free Republic, for example was proclaiming the extreme prejudice even before the debate was completed. But, As is the nature of the new media, it doesn’t influence all at once, but it takes a few news cycles, maybe even a week for them to fully permeate any discussion.
Free Republic was part of that, and the number of freepers initially giving Trump the benefit of the doubt, and then giving a full and fair hearing was a super-majority of the site.
And these thousands emailed, tweeted, texted other thousands, and the reframing of that debate was solidified. Obviously, other conservative sites had their part (not RedState which should be deleted forever from favorites lists for Erickson’s fabricated, menstrual lie.)
But, let’s be honest. We had a voice. Why did we have a voice? Because Free Republic exists. It exists because of our donations. Those who haven’t donated should do so. Do they really want to give up their voice?

The People just want a competent dragon slayer to kill the damn thing....
excellent article.
thanks for the video, that was great.
I’m going to get to the point here. Only about 2% of the people who use this site donate to it. I have noticed a lot of people who use the site who brag that they just sent $100 to Ted Cruz or Trump or Walker or whoever and then when you check the donor list they are not listed either as a monthly donor or a donor to the current Freepathon.
That is really sad. Literally if everyone who used this site regularly just donated $3 in the first week, the Freepathon would be over that week.
Unfortunately this site has more than its share of freeploaders who use this forum to brag about their support of conservative causes and conservative candidates, but don’t lift a finger to help this site. On this site Freepers not only have the opportunity to express their opinion about conservative issues, but they have the opportunity to have their opinions read by thousands of people including members of Congress, the media, the President of the United States and all the candidates running for the office.
Where else can someone with nothing more than a keyboard and an idea be so influential.
The next time you see someone on this site that brags that they just sent $100 to Ted Cruz because of something he said, they need to be asked if they have sent even $5 to Free Republic.
Maybe the only way to get the message out to these Freeploaders is to make them feel guilty.
This site cannot exist without the support of the people who use it. The importance of Free Republic cannot be overemphasized.
UnAmerican/Collectivist/Obama...”Yes We Can”
American/Individualist/Trump... “Yes I Can”
If I've read it once, I've read it a dozen times where some Freeper says about Trump's policy "Gosh, he must have been reading my posts on Free Republic."
That might not exactly be the case -- who really knows -- but the greater point is that this site get read. Just as you have written, I believe it's broadly monitored. There is too much evidence that this is so. Citation after citation can be found for those willing to do a search.
Anyone who can spare a hundred bucks for Cruz or Trump or Walker or any candidate or cause can also spare a twenty for Free Republic -- the very site they enabled them to get a widely disseminated hearing for their very own thoughts on their candidate, issue, or cause. They are not among the destitute if they're dropping hundreds on politicians.
Have you seen this?!!!!!
Well said, xzins. Thank you!
American/Individualist/Trump... Yes I Can
Good one.
Virginians think in the same twisted manner. Must be something in the water.
Anyway, ordering some to check out with the same intent. Sounds like a FReep action to me.
You can get stickers cheap on amazon and ebay. Checking some out for similar agitation purposes.
When I really stop and look at it, I simply see a man who's cut from the sort of high grade timber that once grew great Americans. While the rest of the world went politically correct and lost their moral bearings, this man simply stayed true to himself and his cultural roots.
It's why so many people are puzzled by him, and why he continues to confound and outwit his opponents. They've forgotten what blunt honesty, courage, and competency looks like. They have no idea how do deal with it, and it's making them crazy.
“...how can an impolitic New York billionaire, who openly touts his ubiquitous past of greasing the palms of politicians of all stripes in order to amass a kings fortune in business, possibly become a populist hero of the average citizen out there, and in particular many conservative Republicans?
The answer is simple. He knows the beast. Hes familiar with its moves, its tactics, its weaknesses and vulnerabilities, and therefore hes one of the most qualified to kill it — or at least to bridle and saddle it, then ride it and bring it to heel”
