Lots of people prefer your interpretation, though, which makes the Trump/Sessions plan unfeasible in a short period of time...my remaining lifetime.

I didn't slough over that, in fact that is the central point. If a person is 1) born in the United States and 2) subject to the jurisdiction then

-----> (they) ...are CITIZENS of the United States AND of the state wherin the reside.

The citizenship is a result of those two conditions being met. Exactly!

The public favors eliminating birthright citizenship. It may or may not take a Constitutional amendment to end it. The US and Canada are the only two developed countries that still have it. There are only 33 countries that have it. Mexico is one of them as well.
