A Cruz Supporter Wants to Know Why Your Host Doesn't Criticize Trump More
Rush Limbaugh.com ^ | August 14, 2015 | Rush Limbaugh

Posted on 08/14/2015 3:33:12 PM PDT by Kaslin

RUSH: We're gonna start Daytona, Florida. This is Bradley. Bradley, great to have you. It says up here that you are 18 years old.

CALLER: Yeah.

RUSH: Great to have you on the program, sir, welcome.

CALLER: Hi, Rush. It's an honor to speak to you.

RUSH: I'm proud to have you with us in the audience myself, Bradley. Thank you.

CALLER: Well, I want to get right to it. I'm a Ted Cruz supporter. I'm actually a Liberty student. I was there when he announced his presidency. It was really cool. I was already a Cruz supporter then but that already put the nail in the coffin. But I want to talk about Trump. I don't really like Trump. I don't think he's a true conservative. You know, he gave money to a lot of the Democrats, Hillary Clinton included.

RUSH: Right.

CALLER: I think he actually wants higher taxes on the richer, and he doesn't, you know, support defunding Planned Parenthood. So my question is --

RUSH: No, no, no. Wait, wait, wait, wait, wait, wait, wait. He changed his mind on that. Did you see that the other day? He stepped in it on Planned Parenthood --

CALLER: Oh. (snarky chuckling)

RUSH: -- and then somebody told him how he stepped in it and he changed it. (sputtering) "Abortion is never, ever okay! Trump is never, never gonna happen." So he walked in that back, he's now right on abortion, on Planned Parenthood.

CALLER: Ohhhhh, okay, right. Ha! Ha! Of course.

RUSH: Oh, you don't think...? Wait a minute. I hear some snark there, Bradley.

CALLER: Ha! Ha! Well, I don't trust politicians or Trump, I guess.

RUSH: Trump's not a politician. That's why a lot of people like him.

CALLER: Well, I saw some polls say that they didn't like Trump after the first debate because he demonstrated that he could dodge around questions just like any good old politician out there.

RUSH: Well, I think dodging questions is not per se... It is something you have to learn to do in politics, but I don't think it is an exclusive political talent, dodging questions. Have you ever heard of Bill Belichick?

CALLER: No.

RUSH: You ever heard Bill Belichick, the coach of the New England Patriots?

CALLER: I -- I haven't.

RUSH: You have not?

CALLER: No.

RUSH: Never answers a question.

CALLER: Ha! Ha!

RUSH: He never, ever answers. You talk about he's the king. In fact I've got an example. I think it's the last sound bite of the day. No, it's not. What is it? Grab sound bite... I want you to listen to this. Bill Belichick is the coach of New England Patriots. You're aware of the Tom Brady controversy there and Deflategate?

CALLER: Oh, yeah. For sure.

RUSH: Okay. So the Patriots had their first preseason game last night at Gillette Stadium against the Green Bay Packers, and it turns out that Brady actually played the first couple of series. H was 1-for-4. (chuckling) You know, by the way, you ought to see the New York Post story on this. Brady 1-for-4, insignificant yards, playing with properly inflated footballs (laughing) is the way the New York Post reported. Anyway, so here's the coach of the New England. You want to talk about dodging questions? Here is the question from a reporter, "So what went into your decision to use Tom Brady tonight to start the game?"

BELICHICK: We played a lot of players tonight.

REPORTER: Well, was that a last-minute decision to play Tom, or --

BELICHICK: We played all the guys that we played.

RUSH: All right. And that's how the whole press conference went. "So, Bill, what went into your decision to play Brady tonight?" "We played a lot of players tonight." "Well, was it a last-minute decision to play Tom, or...?" "We played the guys that we played." We're on to Cincinnati. Whatever. So my only point here to you is that Trump is by no means the only guy that knows how to dodge questions. It's not specifically a political talent. But I don't want to take you off track. I know that's not what you called about.

CALLER: Right. Right. Yeah. So that was just all stuff to make my point that I don't think he's a true conservative. I was just gonna ask you why you don't criticize Trump more. You seem to always be really emphatic (sic), happy that he stands up to the media, but you hardly ever say anything about him not being a true conservative.

RUSH: Okay, I'm reading the transcript. Why I don't criticize Trump more?

CALLER: Yeah. A little bit more.

RUSH: You're basically asking why I don't criticize Trump more. Is that the question?

CALLER: Yeah. Yeah.

RUSH: This is... (sigh) That's a really, really tough question. You know why? 'Cause I'm trying to think back. Your question presumes that I haven't been critical and I know that I have, particularly after that debate. But that's not the point. Let me try it this way, Bradley.

CALLER: Yeah?

RUSH: Can you name any other Republican candidate in the debate seeking the nomination that I have criticized?

CALLER: That you have criticized?

RUSH: Yeah.

CALLER: Ummm.

RUSH: You're asking me why I'm not criticizing Trump more. I want you to tell me if you know if I've criticized any of them, and if so, who.

CALLER: (pause) Uh, yeah. I really can't think of any you've really gone after.

RUSH: Okay, so why should I go after Trump if I'm not going after any of the others?

CALLER: Uh, well, he's certainly a bigger story.

RUSH: He's certainly a bigger story? That doesn't matter to me.

CALLER: Ha! Ha!

RUSH: This is the one place where Trump being part of the show doesn't matter to ratings.

CALLER: I guess so.

RUSH: It doesn't! I'm the reason people listen to this show or not, not whether I talk about Trump or play Trump sound bites.

CALLER: (chuckles)

RUSH: It's cable news networks that get ratings depending on their guests and other shows. I don't do guests. I'm not guest dependent. That's not a factor. You mean you really think I'm not criticizing Trump 'cause I'm worried about ratings?

CALLER: No, I don't think you're worried about ratings. I just... Uh...I don't know. I just didn't think you were criticizing Trump a lot. But I guess you're not really criticizing anyone.

RUSH: Yeah, there's a lesson there. There's a message there. I'm not criticizing anybody. You know what I want to do, Bradley?

CALLER: What? (chuckles)

RUSH: Beat Democrats!

CALLER: Yeah?

large

RUSH: I want that. This country needs Democrats to lose everywhere, any time, anywhere, everywhere. Democrats... If this country is going to have a chance at recapturing the magic and the growth of its founding, we are going to have to defeat Democrats, and that's what I want to do. As such... Well, I'm not gonna go any further. You know, I'm not gonna explain how I do what I do. If after 27 years of three hours a day, five days a week, 15 hours a week...

Take away vacation time, sick days (not very many of those). If after 27 years people still can't figure out how I do what I do and why, then why should I tell 'em? (interruption) Well, I know Bradley's only 18, but what does that matter? Am I supposed take sympathy on him 'cause he's 18. (interruption) Bradley, I'm not trying to be snarky with you. I'm just... I'm telling you more than I've told anybody else: I want to beat Democrats.

I really think the future of this country really depends on Democrats losing. And I'm gonna tell you this, too, Bradley. Anybody in either of those two debates two Thursdays ago, I would take over Hillary Clinton, over Joe Biden, over Bernie Sanders, over anybody they nominate. The Democrat Party is undermining this country. The Democrat Party is destroying the character and the foundation of this country. They have to be stopped. (interruption)

Jeez! (chuckling) Now I got people shouting at me. You want to know why you couldn't hear the people I talk to on the other side of the glass because they're shouting at me now, and if you heard what they were saying, well, just unacceptable. Like they're shouting, "So when are you gonna take out X?" as though it's my job to take people out.

I'm not joking and I'm not dodging. The Democrat Party is the root of this nation's problems, top to bottom, and they have to lose, and that is what I care about. That is what I am interested in. That is what I am desirous of happening; so much, I can't tell you how much I want it to happen. I can't tell you how important it is. That's what matters to me, the country.

BREAK TRANSCRIPT

RUSH: Bouncing off of our last call, the 18-year-old from Daytona, is there not enough criticism of Trump out there? (interruption) It is? I thought there was a lot of criticism of Trump out there, but apparently there's not enough. I mean, there are people trying to make their careers, it seems to me, out of criticizing Trump. (interruption) Seems like there's plenty of it out there, so what's the problem?

I sense a Cruz vs. Trump battle forming. But they actually like each other. And I am neutral. If anything I was open to Walker and Jindal as well. I just defend Trump against the Bush elite trying to take him out. Cruz is still my first choice. But Trump I could vote for.

Heck, Trump has said there should be a pathway to citizenship for illegals. But because he’s come out screaming about rapists and criminals (which he was exactly right about, it just wasn’t articulated wonderfully)and building a wall we’re now to just forget all about how he talked about how mean the GOP were to people of color. We’re now to believe without any shred of doubt or skepticism that he’s going to solve the “illegals” problem once and for all?

I’m sorry, but I just won’t be that credulous on that point.

I have listened to Limbaugh since 1984 and
if I had a dollar for every time I’ve heard
that somebody “must have something” on Rush
then I would be on my way to being the next
Trump.

Limbaugh hasn’t been on top for this long
following someone else’s ‘marching orders’.
He personally likes Trump but he is shrewd
enough to refrain from going ‘all in’ for
anyone. When he says his chief mission is to
defeat Democrats he is parroting exactly what
he has always said and done.

Looks to me like Limbaugh is fairly keen on
Cruz who seems to be on rather friendly terms
with Trump. If Cruz and Trump engaged in a
dust up then Limbaugh’s response would be
instructive.

energy of a larger movement that Trump has uncorked

Trump, and also Dr. Carson, are waking up a large section of the populace that heretofore had either given up or were uninterested in politics/elections.

"I support Ted Cruz. Now give me one conservative reason on this conservative website that I as a conservative should not the most conservative candidate, Ted Cruz, and instead, back a man with a history of liberalism?

And bear in mind, I am perfectly fine with any liberal beating any other liberal if America is too stupid to vote with me for a conservative. Because f America loses with any liberal victory, it’s on you, not me. ALL on you."

Excellent.

And the crickets chirp.

I guess I’m a cricket.

CHIRP CHIRP CHIRP.

1: Ted Cruz would govern the best out of the candidates available.

2: Ted Cruz has also allied with Mr. Trump. Or if not allied with, at least apparently has a non-aggression thing going on.

3: If I’m going to support Mr. Cruz’s cause, I’m going to follow his lead, and his lead at this time is pretty much the opposite of what I see you doing on most threads.

Well in all the liberal fawning I can’t remember. Are we supposed to be conservatives or Libs?

If we are conservatives, we vote for conservatives. If we are moderates, anyone is fine as long as we win. So before the lovefest achieves The Rapture, people need to get on a first name basis with that concept. Because if they are moderates, Redstate would suit them better and if they are conservatives they need to get off whatever drugs they;re on and act like it.

None of this is rocket surgery. If one sits there professing conservative values and then backs someone other than the most conservative candidate, while trashing that conservative candidate, they are flat out liars. Whether they like it or not doesn’t change the reality of it and actual believers in conservatism value truth over lies and excuses.

And Frauds are never our best buddies.

Following and supporting a candidate does not mean we have to turn our brain off or buy stock in a ball gag company. Ted has a few things to consider that we are not bound by.

I agree with your number one.

As for two and three, Cruz is playing to win here, and he’s playing a long game. He isn’t Trump’s lapdog. He’s being smart, as is his custom.

As for me? I’m not Cruz and I’m not running for office. This is a political forum where candidates are criticized and praised all day long.

Trump is no different, though some folks think he should be. He’s a liberal Democrat shyster, and I won’t be doing any fawning over him.

You would think. I keep thinking it'll happen and sanity will return. And then I see someone post that Trump should just do a bunch of illegal executive orders like Obama, and I wonder exactly what drug that is, and if it's from another galaxy.

Agreed.

You know, conservatives have waited and hoped for a candidate like Cruz. Remember the apprehension around here while we were waiting to see if he would run? We just weren't sure, but we knew the country needed him.

Then he announced and we celebrated. And then---look over here! A Democrat reality show celebrity! OMG, I'm in love!

Bizarro, man.

Liberals doing what comes naturally to them, that’s all. Charlie Sheen conservatism. Winning!

What they win isn’t really that important. If it was they’d win with a conservative. They just don’t want to. If they put a fraction of the effort into supporting Cruz they do Trump, we would have a conservative president when the returns get tallied. If they actually wanted conservatism, they would work for, not against it.

I like when today they tell us to shut up and right before the election they say, EVERY ELECTION, “You should have sorted all this a year ago and it’s too late we gotta unite because DEMOCRAT SATAN!!!

When do these lobotimites suppose we do that when ‘do not oppose my position supporting liberals is their constant mantra? Do they suppose no one noticed that minor detail from the last 3 elections?

Not one aspect of this theatrical production idiocy makes sense from a conservative standpoint. So it’s just another indicator it isn’t actual conservatives doing it.

Heck, Trump has said there should be a pathway to citizenship for illegals.

Trump has said no such thing. He has come out for 100 percent deportation. His only concession has been an expedited legal process to return people we might want in this country. This is much better than NOT deporting them, and offering them not only legal status, but eventual citizenship, based on the premise that they can't be removed.

"No, there should be no pathway to citizenship for those who are here illegally. I don't support amnesty."

But Cruz supports the underhanded way to do it: no deportation of the people here (he wants to "talk" about it), and by dishonestly claiming that we can create a third class of people in the U.S. who have legal status but NO pathway to citizenship.

That's another of the big lies-- that we can give "legal status" but somehow withhold citizenship. It's nonsense and part of the scam.

No, no citizenship, no job, no credit, no welfare, no healthcare, no buying real property if you are here illegally. Do that and all the incentives to come here illegally are gone. In addition if you can’t make a living here you’ll go back to where you came from. In other words they will self deport themselves.

No rewarding criminals period.

It does go to show you that anti-Trumpeteers don’t care about anything other than slamming Trump. Rush schooled this kid in a very excellent manner.

More to the point, he schooled the listeners who think only infrequently about politics and not much at all about the inside-baseball of blue-on-blue hits and "takeouts".

(And the for record I consider the Dems the "RED" party.)

One last point is that there are still a lot of Republicans (Fiorina, Jeb Bush, Linda Graham, others) who are miserably deficient on a number of social issues like abortion and immigration, that I think Rush ought to think twice about saying it before he blurts out that he'll take any Republican over any Democrat. I think there is a lot of merit to the argument from four and eight years ago that we'd be worse off today on key issues if John McCain or Mitt Romney had broken into the White House.

Neither one of them supported Main Street Republicans on Obamacare/Romneycare, 2A, immigration, land-use issues, or black racism.

And nobody has done squat about the IRS, Fast & Furious, and FECgate, even Benghazi.

I heard this and found is good that the 18 year old is in the right place politically, as well as Rush treating him to what his targets are (Democrats) and that beating them is what is important.
. . . and that is what Trump probably wishes he had said that the entire audience of the debate thinks. There is no point getting tied up in knots worrying about details of who is least politically correct, when the Democrats are having trouble not nominating Hillary Clinton, of all the unqualified, unprincipled people.

You’ll never accept any answer, no matter how cut and dried it is. For you, Cruz will always be a liar because it gives you reason to support that Democrat celebutard.

This is cultic thinking.

BTW, aren’t you the guy who said he would support Anthony Weiner if he became “suddenly conservative?”

LOL

Pathway to citizenship might be assuming too much... might be.

He DID say to Dana Bash that some of them should be given legalized status because they do jobs Americans don’t want to do. He did NOT leave out the option of citizenship for them one day.

In the midst of a conversation with Bill O’Reilly he all of a sudden said you have to give these illegals a path to succeed in this country.

I remember this interview you are referring to (do not remember the O'Reilly interview). This is in the context of people who have already been deported, but whom we might provide a legal process of return if they are people we might want. He did indeed leave the option open when asked about eventually having a pathway to citizenship, but mostly dismissed it as an idea that he wasn't even considering, and I think he even said "probably not."

More than likely he probably hasn't even thought about it. Considering his working together with Sessions, I look forward to see a full immigration plan which we'll learn more about on Sunday I believe.
