Did we just see Erick Ericksons Red State draw a red line in the sand in front of Rush Limbaugh? And if so, is it another aspect of the booming dynamic known as the Trump effect?
That very case can be made as Erickson used Red States daily email blast lead story from Dan McLaughlin on Wednesday to fire shots across the bow of all talk radio hosts who are in any way supporting Donald Trump. And while Erickson does not have the by-line on this indictment, it is right in line with his recent dis-invitation of Trump to speak at the recent Red State gathering. (snip)
(snip) gauntlet is thrown down on all talkers with the bombastic warning that all those in a position of leadership . cable and talk radio hosts, pundits, columnists, bloggers (who are) actively encouraging the Trump phenomenon, you are neither a conservative nor a Republican anymore and should not expect anyone to take you seriously again.
Theres nothing else to add to that, other than to notice that a direct endorsement of Trump was not a requirement here no merely the encouragement of the Trump phenomenon is in and of itself damning.
And just in case anyone still missed the main point of the article, it closed with the harsh notice that Donald Trumps feckless campaign is a millstone . take it off your necks, or be drowned by it. The close was dramatically stark on purpose.
Translation: Those talk leaders who now speak well of Trumps campaign are heading for a major embarrassment down the line
.and ole Erick will be there to remind them.

Either EE is an attention-whore or he is finally coming out of the closet as a eGOP operative.
I pay attention because I write on this particular part of the game....and it’s a part...but I hear you on doing your own thinking. You do indeed do that.
Sorry, free trade can be a good thing but these agreements aren’t about that. The nation’s security and well being should be given a higher priority than the profits of a few politically connected corporations. At least that’s what our founding fathers thought. Putting profits above national security is treason.
That’s an interesting theory....that Rush and Levin think Cruz is unelectable. I don’t agree with it - not at this point - but it’s worth observing. I’m sure we’ll discuss this again as it all unfolds.
what is Eric protecting? It seems that the Republican party and their supporters are only protecting their own personal interests.
you know, i don’t disagree with what you said, but you’re not saying what Trump is saying....not at all iMO.
You and I agree...more than you and Trump agree.
I pay attention but don’t much listen. I follow Levin on twitter so I have a basic idea of where his opinions are.
Here's the pimple of a man with Jeb at his RedState gathering - for which he disinvited Trump and snubbed Carson. His introduction for Jeb Bush included I love this guy and the most conservative governor.
Erick will stick to sucking up!
Try and think beyond conspiratorial. EE has some estab tendencies perhaps, but it's absurd to say that on balance he's part of the DC establishment writ large. He's not.
It's also naive and not supportable to lump all anti Trump feelings into the establishment. You may not want to admit it, but there's a lot of anti Trump feeling from leaders of the anti establishment movement. Yeah, the GOP E is panicked, agreed, but they're not the only ones against Trump - or at least, leery of Trump.
You know, it’s possible that Erick will be wrong about Jeb but right about Trump. Contrary to what some around here think, the universe is not either Jeb or Trump. It’s much more complicated than that.
so let me ask you....serious honest question.....how will this play out if Trump goes liberal on some key issue at a key moment....or otherwise implodes for any number of potential reasons?

I can only rely on my 70 years of experience and insight. I make wrong choices on occasion, but I am never, never going to be told or driven into voting Republican again because I have no other alternative. Just like Trump, I want to preserve my options, and right now that means supporting Trump. At this point I know one thing for certain. As Trump’s former advisor, Roger Stone said, the Uniparty elites are pissing in their pants right now. Trump is the only guy who can bust up this disastrous cartel that will certainly destroy the country. What good are elections if they are only window dressing, a contrived means to betray us? Right now, the news is the RINOs are huddling, plotting their course on how to destroy Trump. Trust me, they are not doing with your interests in mind. They detest the likes of you and me. They are trying to calculate whether they can write us off and still maintain power.
I’m glad you accept that thought.
I myself just cannot get so iterative on Trump: item #2 (immig is #1) followed by item #3, item #4.....
Let’s let this shake out as it inevitably will far, far out of our control. It’s better entertainment than obsession IMHO.
I can think of lots of flame outs, but none so charismatic, nor so well funded.
I'm now giving him 50/50, I don't necessarily like my assessment, he's not my first or second choice, although he might have crept into third (that's my tri-polarism speaking). I'm just trying to come to grips with my 50/50 assessment, cognitive dissonance is a powerful force........
Who is Erik? I honestly never heard of him.
Reagan’s first run was 76, and he was not wire to wire at all...so that comparison is not really valid because Reagan 80 was clearly extension of his 76 Campaign.
And W was far more establishment than not. Like I said, an establishment candidate can go wire to wire...in or close to the lead. An insurgent cannot. But 80, Reagan was no insurgent. He was clearly that in 76.
I’m giving it 5/95.
Erick Erickson threatening Rush? A midget taking on Godzilla.
As I’ve already said, I saw Trump yesterday eating lunch in his own restaurant. No handlers, very little security and waiters and busboys who were telling the tourists watching him to vote for him. It speaks well of a candidate that his busboys love him.
He's no Rush or Levin....but he did have every candidate desperately wanting to be at his event over the weekend, including Trump, who was clearly ticked off by the snub. I'm not an EE fan, and I do not support the snub at all, but to say he's insignificant in the big picture is just not accurate.
Erickson is not an impartial player. Nor is he a big voice, in my opinion. He is easily ignored. What’s he gonna do...drum up false accusations against someone else?
And, I’m not being intentionally snotty here, just honest — I never thought Erickson was all that. Ingraham smokes him. In fact, Billy Cunningham is more interesting.
You’ve hit on something that’s always on my mind when I’m learning about candidates. I hear nothing about limiting and/or shrinking the size and scope of the federal government from Trump. If he’s mentioned it, I’ve missed it. I don’t think at this point Trump has given it any thought- he’s a pragmatic guy. I could be mistaken, but I think he sees this as another project- I’m not convinced he understands the way our government is desinged to work.
He would do himself and us a “yuuuuge” favor by taking some time asap to read Mark Levin’s books. Let those ideas percolate in his mind and see what he thinks about them.
99% of the time Godzilla wins easily....but there are those rare David and Goliath things. I’m not predicting it, but it will be fun to watch play out.
