In the Cleveland debate, Donald Trump refused to commit to support whomever the Republican Party nominates in 2016.
Trump would be wise to maintain his freedom of action.
For there is a plot afoot in the Washington Post Conservative Club to purge Trump from the Republican Party before the primaries begin.
A political party has a right to secure its borders, asserts the Posts George Will, a duty to exclude interlopers. Will wants The Donald excommunicated and locked out of all GOP debates until he kneels and takes a loyalty oath to the nominee.
Marginalizing Trump carries no risk of alienating a substantial Republican cohort, Will assures us, for these Trumpites are neither Republicans nor conservatives. Better off without such trash.
The Posts Michael Gerson says establishment Republicans must make clear that [Trump] has moved beyond the boundaries of serious and civil discourse. He loathes the Trumpites as much as Will.
Trumps followers are xenophobic, Gerson tells CNN. They have a resentment of outsiders, of Mexico, of China, and immigrants. Thats more like a European right-wing party, a UKIP or a National Front in France. Republicans cant incorporate that.
But if the GOP has no room for Trumps followers, it has no future. For there simply arent that many chamber-of-commerce and country-club Republicans.
Trump should tell the GOP, in the neocons favorite phrase, All options are on the table. And that includes the Samson Option.
Trump should tell the GOP that if it disrespects him and his followers, then he is prepared to do as did the biblical hero Samson, when, blinded and mocked by the Philistines, he pushed the pillars apart and brought the temple down upon the heads of them all.

"...but not a nation."
He is a bit of a contradiction there, isn’t he? The establishment wants open borders. It’s George who needs to return to the conservative ranch. Not the other way around.
Yes, they can. If Hillary gets say 40% of the vote and Trump plus Whomever split 60% of the vote, they are well within the numbers to say that 60% of America voted against Hillary. A compromise candidate could be in order. Assuming a Republican House doesn’t get browbeat by the media into picking Hillary because she had 40% — something that Boehner is not immune to — I would expect a compromise candidate to be a republican. It would be hard to pick someone who’d already been beaten in the primaries.
They could go after a female or minority and calm lots of dissension. It would probably be a governor or senator.
“Will assures us, for these Trumpites are neither Republicans nor conservatives. Better off without such trash.”
Trump has become the litmus test to determine who is a
real conservative republican and who the real RINO’s are.
George Will just outed himself. He’s a RINO fraud.
If you keep doing what you did, you will keep getting what you got.
We are better off with a third party than with what we have had for the last 20 years.
I think every day, both sides are looking for dirt on Trump and next it will be that he had an affair or 2. I hope Trump has his lawyers on standby. We haven’t seen anything yet!
Kookpaul jr third party run?
A jbush nomination would almost guarantee multiple third party runs.
“You cant fool a fellow Captain, Captain! For we are duty bound and cursed by God himself to see what others WOULD NOT!”
It is a curse, but humor will see us through it.
I have always very much disliked Will. He sold his soul to ABC 25 years ago. Now I actually despise the SOB.
“That one dimensional thinking is in full view on this very thread. “
Indeed it is!
Well actually he did come clean the other night on a panel but he doesn’t go out of his way to to make sure you know. George Will is now and always has been an establishment GOPe pundit. His dream is Jebbie in the Whitehut.
Would not surprise me.
“....Sucks having to fight the party establishment and the Democrats at the same time, but thats the hand weve been dealt....”
Look at it this way; at least they’re out in the open now.
No need to pretend anymore.
Those attacking the people - Trump and Cruz - that speak for me, are attacking me.
I owe them no allegiance.
Not so sure about the “nekkid” part, Norm... No... I’m not so sure I want that imagery at ALL...
At LEAST put on a Toga... with the hem tastefully held CLOSED so passersby don’t get the upskirt effect...
:^)
I’d like to see a party leader that actually IS conservative, for once. The last was Reagan. Been a while.
Trump and Cruz are the only ones who connect with us working folk. So the folks attacking them are essentially attacking me. They want to foist another RINO on us. I’m not playing that game.
Way I see it, anyway.
He is now covering this exact topic. Buchanan and Gerson.
Recommended!
Trumps followers are xenophobic”
I am good with that.
See, now isn’t that just always the way? People always trying to blind themselves to the naked truth. Sometimes the stark reality is indeed shocking. Even upsetting. But people need to be exposed to the truth laid bare.It makes good women tremble and lesser men weep.
Besides, it worked for Michaelangelo! ;)
In any situation this absurd, what else can ya do?
