In the past two weeks, there has been a flurry of Republican presidential polls. We were inundated with national polls before the first presidential debate. Now every couple hours it seems like new national or state specific numbers come out, and the results of which are used to explain how candidates faired in the debates.
The over-abundance of polls wouldnt be so bad if their results were somewhat consistent. Donald Trump has been a consistent frontrunner in every Iowa and national poll that has been released since the debate, but thats where most of the similarities end. Is Jeb Bush really a second tier candidate in Iowa like the polls indicate? Does the $100 million man really now trail Carly Fiorina? Has Dr. Ben Carson surpassed Scott Walker in Iowa for the number two spot?
Frankly, I dont know what to believe. Some people question the Trump phenomenon, but Ive spent more time talking about Trump in the past two weeks than any other candidate, and Im not talking about conversations with political reporters, Im talking about the average people I encounter in my travels around the state. I cant tell you how many times people come up to be and say, so whats your opinion about Trump.
I typically turn the question around on them to get them talking. Most of the people I encountered admit that they are intrigued by Trump. Some think he could win the nomination if he just watched his mouth a little bit. Others are frustrated that hes not taking the race more seriously. Ive also been surprised that so many people have mentioned the line of questioning by Fox News in last weeks debate.

Go home Jeb.
I voted for Palin in 2008 AND 2012. Last RINO I ever voted for was G.W. Bush, mistakenly thinking that it made a difference.
The top tier for republicans is Cruz and Walker.
The second tier of republicans includes Carly, Carson, and a few other good candidates of varying degrees of conservatism.
Jeb has dropped to second tier, but not as a republican. That is in the eyes of his numerous democrat supporters. He’s just another pro-Amnesty big government liberal, one who is just as unacceptable to patriotic Americans as Hillary. No, thank you.
He was a governor and has a large war chest.
Craig Robinson is very much an Iowa insider. Walker, as well as Cruz and, surprisingly, Carson, have good organized supporters that will do well in the caucuses.
It’s long been evident Bush was mostly going to ignore Iowa.
Polls in Iowa don’t matter as much, except that Trump supporters, a bit like Santorum supporters last time, can show up, cast a straw vote and then leave without really taking part in party business such as getting on the path to becoming national convention delegates.
The author’s final point is that the hyped debate just passed probably won’t matter in the long run. Unless a candidate really stumbles, like Perry last time, or Hillary in 2008, Iowa caucuses won’t really matter much either.
Jen always was a second tier candidate..th equestrianism will he be treated like one?
Jen always was a second tier candidate..the question is will he be treated like one?
Iowa, New Hampshire, South Carolina and Nevada are the only places that vote before not so Super Tuesday, and only Iowa and Nevada are caucuses.
All Bush has to do to “win” the nomination is still have a % above zero at the end of the process, and maybe he doesn’t have to have that much. All he really needs is the determination of the RNC and associated Democrats that he will be the Nominee. Election is not a consideration. He is not running for Election and the RNC will have failed if a Democrat is not elected.
He always has been a second tier candidate except to the GOPe.
Bush could speak Spanish the rest of the campaign and constantly use the women’s bathroom everywhere he goes because the nomination is a lock.
Of course, “they” will tell us we have to vote for Jeb or else Hillary, who was trounced a couple elections ago, by a relatively unknown Jr Senator, with little, or no, recond of ever accomplishing anything, will win!
As an “act of love”, voters should send jebbie to mexico.
He’s not second tier, he’s about tenth tier ( and falling).
You and me both. Never again!
I can’t imagine anyone but a democrat voting for him.
Really? Where?
Jebbie believes that all he has to do is “show up”, and he is the de facto nominee.
