Former Texas governor Rick Perry's presidential campaign is no longer paying its staff because fundraising has dried up, while his cash-flush allied super PAC is preparing to expand its political operation to compensate for the campaign's shortcomings, campaign and super PAC officials and other Republicans familiar with the operation said late Monday.
Perry, who has struggled to gain traction in his second presidential run, has stopped paying his staff at the national headquarters in Austin as well as in the early caucus and primary states of Iowa, New Hampshire and South Carolina, according to a Republican familiar with the Perry campaign who demanded anonymity because of the sensitivity of the situation.
Perry campaign manager Jeff Miller told staff last Friday, the day after the first Republican presidential debate, that they would no longer be paid and are free to look for other jobs -- and, so far at least, most aides have stuck with Perry -- according to this Republican.

I could see that.
...Ha...and with what collateral....?
I wanted to be excited about his candidacy but he made it too hard for me.
The GOPee has no use for him any longer?
He should sell all those fake eyeglasses he bought.
So that leaves 16.
Quick, call Donald Trump names!
That’ll fix it.
one down.

Which doesn’t really benefit anybody because I have no money to give to anyone.
What? His IQ would drop 40 points.
Considering his past performance and pro amnesty actions, I have to think his donors were Liberals/Dems/LaRaza types. And they dropped him when he could not serve their purpose.
Which begs the question how stupid one has to be, even for a lib, to think Perry was going anywhere but out the door early.
Into the negative range?
I agree. In other circumstances, Perry might have been able to move past his 2012 gaffe. But the field is just too deep this time with good to great choices. Why risk putting your money on Perry when Ted Cruz and others are available? Not to be harsh, but Perry wouldn’t be the best choice even from the second-tier of candidates. Why put money on Perry when you could back Bobby Jindal?
I don’t think Perry is a bad guy. Far from it. I think he’s head and shoulders better than Obama. But he’s not the guy we need from the GOP field to lead the charge.
Is Rand or Linda next?
When he hired them I decided I was no longer interested in him. Judgement that bad simply cannot be excused.
I assume that Linda is funded by the GOPee until the SC primary.
“He should sell all those fake eyeglasses he bought.”
They look like OSHA compliant safety glasses to me.
The first and dumbest one bites the dust.
