RIP
Of course, that was the first National Football League playoff game to go into sudden death before a nation-wide audience. When the Colt's Alan Ameche scored on a third down 1-yard touchdown run to win the game, 2317, the future of the NFL was set to explode.
I was delighted in the outcome as I was an 11-year old diehard Colts fan then as was my father who never stopped reminding any and all that the Colts were actually the old 1952 Dallas Texans.
Rest in peace, Frank. Say "Hi!" to my old Pappy... he'll be the one telling you your lost to the Dallas Texans in "The Greatest Game Ever Played"
Frank Gifford. Frank. Giff. The Giffmeister. A man’s man. A warrior and a poet. Yin and Yang. Gone at 84. Adieu...
I remember his cameo in the flick “Paper Lion”, along with other contemporaries like Alex Karras, Joe Schmidt and Vince Lombardi. Giff seemed right at home in the Swinging ‘60s.
Fast forward a few decades and he got reeled in by Kathie Lee Epstein and sired 2 children with her. Ah, the joys of fatherhood when you’re 117 years old.
My fondest memories of The Giffmeister were when the sordid details of his affair with an airline stewardess were released. Whoa, Nellie!!! (yes, I know that’s Keith Jackson’s line)
RIP, Giff. You and your loins earned it.
