Can they legally keep somebody from running for President? This isn't a state
office, it's a national office so it makes sense that they cannot stop Trump
or anybody else for that matter if they have the signatures to run on the ballot.

I in no way support Trump but this isn't passing the smell test.

“According to “sore loser” laws in the state of Ohio, any candidate who has chosen their party essentially can’t, at the last minute, run on a third-party ticket in the state.”

That is a STATE law, not a FEDERAL law and this election is a FEDERAL ELECTIION. They can use their law to control state offices but not federal offices.

I suspect that, if Trump decides to go 3rd party, this “ruling” will be cited by him as an example of one of the ways in which the GOP tried to treat him unfairly and thus forced him to run 3rd party. In other words, this gambit may be a mistake.

I don’t think Trump will run on a third party ticket. But, the Ohio “law” can’t be constitutional. How can a state tell anyone they can’t run for national office?

According to “sore loser” laws in the state of Ohio, any candidate who has chosen their party essentially can’t, at the last minute, run on a third-party ticket in the state.

Are there any laws forbidding him from changing his party after he's elected?

Could a person get elected as a republican president, then switch parties and become a democrat after being sworn in?

“Legal experts said that mounting a third-party run is a daunting, close-to-impossible, expensive challenge, according to USA Today.”

Trump wouldn’t be running 3rd party to win; he’d be doing it to hand his good friend Hillary the election. “Art of the deal,” you know.

It is not all that surprising that the uniparty has authored laws protecting the, wait for it,

uniparty!

Yes, but has Trump already “officially” announced by filing paper work in the state?

What is that deadline? I bet it has not been reached yet.

By the time the deadline has been reached, the decision may already be made.

One small problem, that only applies to state offices. Just as the states have no say in the federal offices in regards to term limits, they have no say in this federal office as well.

I can’t see this law impacting unless Trump qualified for the March 2016 Ohio primary, and after that decided to run under another banner.

Regardless, it does not matter. A Trump independent candidacy would not be about winning. I do not think any 3rd party run will ever win, because the Democrats can consistently get 34% to the polls.

Even independent leftists like Nader tend to draw college educated white progressives, not the Dems core of unions, minorities, etc.

Could it be that the days of the two-party system is coming to a close? Could we very well go the way of other countries that do muti-political parties?

Good luck with that in court. Until he has officially filed papers as a candidate in that state, he isn’t bound by anything. And I’m sure he’s not stupid enough to do that until he has made a final choice one way or the other.

This anti Trump plan would seem fair if it included the wording that assured the GOP party would support the winner of the primary, be it Trump or favorite Kasich. Ohio will go democrat if the GOPe does not get behind the choice of their supporters. Stay at home rebellion is in the air. Take note GOP.

That won’t hold up in court.

Very revealing. The GOP views Trump as a major threat, and is moving to counter him.

As I have said before, the primaries really don’t matter. The nomination is at the convention, according to the GOP rules.

Trump is one of those sorts that wins. Losing is not in his vocabulary. I can see him doing a third party for the purpose of winning against the anus orifices of the establishment.

I can also see the establishment A/O’s encouraging an atmosphere of contempt to drive The Donald to go third party however as they seem to be in bed with the DNC on the direction of a New World Order.

I believe many in our government see The New World Order as inevitable, and are cashing in as much as they can, and what they can of the Old.
