And no, I'm not going to knock the easy target of France for her gift to America of the statue. I'm sure they meant well and she's become an iconic symbol of our Republic's freedoms.
What I do protest are the words of native New York Emma Lazarus who penned these words added to the the Statue of Liberty in 1903, more than a decade and half after the statue was inaugurated:
Give me your tired, your poor, Your huddled masses yearning to breathe free, The wretched refuse of your teeming shore. Send these, the homeless, tempest-tossed to me, I lift my lamp beside the golden door!Emma...Emma...Emma. No thanks. We have plenty of wretched refuse here already. NO MORE! Upon further consideration, perhaps an addition is needed for that lady in the harbor.
The inscription should read: GTFO!
