Tough Questions to Trump Prompt Fox Fans to Call for Ban on Megyn Kelly

GOP presidential hopeful Donald Trump and his supporters are crying foul over what they consider to be tough treatment by Fox News and in particular Megyn Kelly at Thursday night's debate. They are calling for a ban on Kelly at future GOP showdowns.

For anyone who watched even the first few minutes of the first 2016 Republican presidential candidate debate Thursday night, it was clear that Fox News was out to sandbag Trump. Taking to social media after the debate, it was clear that "The Donald" was far from pleased with the conservative news network.

When the highly anticipated debate of the crowded field of Republican presidential hopefuls began, the first question, asked by the team of Fox News personalities who acted as the evening's moderators, was clearly aimed at one of the ten contenders on stage.

"Is there anyone on stage, and can I see hands, who is unwilling tonight to pledge your support to the eventual nominee of the Republican Party and pledge to not run an independent campaign against that person," asked Fox News' Bret Baier.

The lone hand that went up was that of frontrunner Donald Trump, who is enjoying a double-digit lead in the polls. Trump's move prompted both cheers and jeers from the audience in Cleveland and gave his challengers their first opportunity to jump on the billionaire former TV reality show star.

"Maybe he runs as an independent," said Sen. Rand Paul, who is trailing Trump by 20 points. "He's already hedging his bets."

"That question -- statement was absolutely aimed at me," Trump said during a phone interview on "Fox and Friends" Friday morning, adding "I didn't think it was appropriate, but that's OK."

The second obvious slam to Trump came from Fox's Megyn Kelly whose question was neither about policy nor politics, but about the thrice married businessman's history of calling women he doesn't like "fat pigs, dogs, slobs, and disgusting animals." Kelly further noted an instance on Trump's reality show "The Apprentice" where he alluded to seeing a female contestant on her knees.

It appears that Fox was purposely trying to push him out of the Republican party.

That's exactly what that "hands up" question was all about.

And right out of the gate, too. If that doesn't tell you something, you need your ears checked.

Kelly treated this like an entertainment show: her light banter and smirking was inappropriate.

Megyn needs to apologize to the network and to Trump.

Did Obama get asked personal questions like this?

Will Hillary be asked about Bill’s cavorting or the blue dress?

Megyn Kelly is a Fox star, but she has a one hour show that could be targeted for boycott to make the point that Fox had better course correct. Also, there is a hashtag #firemegynkelly that could use help in trending.

“She was thrilled that Roger Ailes would probably give her a raise.”

Yeah but, will there be any money in it for her?

What if Trump had not raised his hand? Answer: The Fox Torquemadas would have pounced on Trump asking him if was being truthful. It was a gimmick to put Trump on his heels for the rest of the debate. It backfired.

Trump is the Washington outsider who reflects the public's disgust with the political class or as Cruz calls them, the Washington Cartel. Should Trump lose, why should he rubber-stamp an unknown winner who may not reflect his views on issues like immigration and trade? Why give up the only leverage you have to counter the GOPe and the RNC who may try to torpedo your campaign?

Trump raised his hand and was honest. No apologies. For those who despise what the GOPe has done with the control of Congress and stopping Obama's agenda, it was the perfect response. Trump is his own man.

As a dog returns to its vomit, so does a Dem operative to a previously successful strategy.

I have my doubts as to whether the War On Women meme will work a second time, I think most people have caught on. That won't stop them from trying, especially with a female candidate.

The Democrats have been very successful in Pavlovizing a good portion of the country. They ring the right bells, and their voters brains simply switch off.

The reason we are in so much trouble in this country is that people vote for candidates when they look all pretty and nice and then crumble under pressure.

I have no doubt that Trump would come through against the terrorists or China or India or whoever. That is all I care about.

I saw a man last night under attack who would take none of it. That is all that matters.

I’m an old guy who has seen many, many political debates and I thought it was as good as it gets. I enjoyed it.

The moderators did hit Trump with hard questions, and I have no problem with that. He is a big boy on a big stage and should (and did) handle them. The other candidates also got some very tough questions. Questions their supporters probably didn’t like, and they too fielded them well. The moderators pretty well cleared out the garbage and subsequent debates can take a different tact. IMO

Trump didn’t say they were tough. Nor did he whine about it. He said Kelly’s question was not nice.

You can whine about that fact or not. But that’s what he said

>> If he had promised to support the GOPe candidate, do you think the GOPe would have felt free to play every dirty trick they could think of on him? <<

Dunno. But it’s not relevant, in my opinion, as to whether FNC should have raised the question.

Kelly was just piling on with one of the stories she highlighted on her show, i.e., revelations that Trump “raped” his wife. It fell flat when Ivana supported Trump and said he would make a fantastic President. The Candy Kelly “question” just continued that narrative.

That makes the question invalid.

Not at all. The "question"...how would you handle the War On Women meme given that you have all these sound bytes, out of context or no, out there to be used against you? is totally valid.
