Forty years ago, a contentious battle over racial justice gripped Capitol Hill, pitting the nations lone African-American senator against the man who would one day become Barack Obamas vice president. The issue was school busing, a plan to transport white and black students out of their neighborhoods to better integrate schoolsand at the time the most explosive issue on the national agenda.
Ed Brooke, a Massachusetts Republican, was the first black senator ever to be popularly elected; Joe Biden was a freshman Democratic senator from Delaware. By 1975, both had compiled liberal voting records. But that year, Biden sided with conservatives and sponsored a major anti-busing amendment. The fierce debate that followed not only fractured the Senates bloc of liberals, it also signified a more wide-ranging political phenomenon: As white voters around the countryespecially in the Northobjected to sweeping desegregation plans then coming into practice, liberal leaders retreated from robust integration policies.

Good ole Joe (’they’ll have you back in chains’)Biden
Looks like Hillary decided it is time to help Biden decide not to run by releasing some of her opposition research to her good friends at Politico.
“Integration” is just another way of saying “white children are being educated too well and their environment is just too safe. Let’s fix that”.
Last week Obama began his campaign to federalize local zoning. This past weekend NPR’s Ira Glass ( “This American Life”) had a long segment on the successes of busing for racial integration. Now, there is this article.
Wow. That didn’t take long. And it’s on POLITICO. Someone wants to shut Joe down.
Could be any number of people. Dang it! I was hoping Dems would have another splinter in their group to throw money at!
My son ( now in his mid-forties) went to a desegregated school. We lasted until mid-January. My reasoning was that it was a new world and we would learn to live in it. We didn't. We moved to the suburbs in the middle of the school year.
Everything is planned.
I think we should write his name Jo’Bidet
“Y’all”

Well for starters, she was a regional campaign manager for George McGovern in '72. Now how's that for liberal?
Number one, why couldn't the fed gov. then move in and improve all those supposedly inferior schools? They forced many school districts to waste many thousands of tax dollars sending children on long bus trips to implement their stupid plan. Why didn't they simply try to improve those black schools?
And number two, how did the experiment work out as far as improving the educational performance of the black students? It didn't improve it on whit. After four decades of placing black students next to white student, black students nationwide are still at the bottom of scholastic performance.
The whole thing was a typical liberal, unmitigated failure which wasted many millions of tax-payer dollars. The people who instituted the program should have been publicly flogged.
ALL liberal programs are SHAMS
I drove by my old high school in Prince Georges county Maryland a few years ago.
Busing from DC began in `72. I noticed the school composite photos were reversed from what they were when I attended: about 98% black and just a handful of white kids.
My brother, a VA resident and my driver refused to get out of the car. He said police cars pulled up a couple times while we were there.
A short walking tour showed kids hanging out in the halls while classes were in session. Ceiling tiles cracked, hanging down, missing floor tiles.
Last I heard they had a uniform policy to stop kids from wearing gang colors. Drug problems.
On the up-side, they still have a very good football team.
I asked the principal what the new two story addition was and he replied “a nursery, day care” and I bit my tongue from saying, “Isn’t that what it was already?”
In sum, the non-Derbyshire fact of the matter is—as soon as the black folks started moving in, the white folks started moving out: white flight.
Way to go Democrats & Nixon.

BS detector on high alert. Whenever the word “justice” is used with a modifying adjective (racial justice, social justice, economic justice, etc.), it is justice with an agenda. In other words, it isn’t just.
Justice is blind. Agenda driven justice is never so.
