Great comments.

After the Republicans calling Buchanan the next Hitler in 1996, I voted for Dole.

No offense but that made me laugh.☺ Those tactics were around before us.

That sounds mean, but the only alternative was that they were paid hit men/women seeking to drive Conservatives off forums. It was that bad.

There were groups wolf packing posters. Many who crossed the line disappeared into the corn field. Lots of group think stuff. This goes on in real life too. Things and attitudes change.

On Trump, I hear these people say he's not serious and as soon as Trump gets Hillary in there he'll bail and on and on. I'm thinking if he ever did that to his supporters he'd be the most hated guy in the entire country. Him and his family would flee the country. ☺ The entire country would hate him, not only the MSM and Politicos but millions of others. What a hoot! It's movie material.

On a serious note, I'm betting even El Chapo is starting to sweat as well.

He has already addressed the debt and cutting spending. He has also addressed welfare.

He wants to put people back to work, and that explodes government revenue.

His instincts are good related to this.

I liked what you had to say.

Yaelle, it’s like trying to explain to an estranged spouse that you still care for them, when they don’t want to listen.

It’s like meeting a woman, opening yourself up and telling her your true feelings and having her tell you she doesn’t believe a word of it.

It’s like listening to your girl-friend tell you she loves this certain diamond ring for ten specific reasons. You buy it for her and give it to her on a Tuesday. She’s unhappy it wasn’t Thursday.

It’s like asking God to send a man named Ted to you, so he can deliver you. God sends a man named Donald instead and you refuse what he offers you, which is about 95% what Ted would have.

He loves the nation, and may not see eye to eye with you, but he knows the subjects beyond the superficial. You won’t even listen to his interviews and speeches.

Yaelle, it’s human nature. I’m guilty of it too at times.

I had actually given that consideration. I think it’s a good point.

If he does a good job, I’ll want him to rub off on Cruz more. If he doesn’t, I’m okay with the one term.

BTW, I agree with the absurdity of some of the people who object to Trump. This guy is going to put his billions on the line while he spends 15 month running for president, but he isn’t serious?

Riiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiight.

Laughing ruefully at your examples.

Someone else on thread said it’s making the perfect the enemy of the good.

My perspective has been — either enhanced or snipped -— since yesterday losing a beloved first cousin. Suddenly. With what we believing conservatives keep having to put up with, what we expected this joke of an election in 2016 to be (gagged with a goper, refusing to vote, maybe having Clintons back in the WH for eight years again), TRUMP LOOKS DAMN GOOD. Even if he is half liberal. He is fighting our biggest enemy. Washington statism and its creepy media tools.

He fights. I think he really means to do the things that he talks about. It’s not the usual sack of lies that the GOP serves up while they pretend to share our concerns. And as a bonus he may take out a whole herd of the RINOs and GOPe who consider us to be a bigger enemy than they do Democrats.

More than that I suspect he’s a lot closer to our thinking than his critics here believe.

That’s my take too.

I have zero confidence we get Cruz or Walker over Bush.

With Trump we at least have a guy who temporarily voiced our thoughts. Jebra never will.

Who has had more time to study “moderate Republicans” than us?

Moderates don’t bring up our issues.

If they get cornered, they will voice mild support, but when pressed they can’t articulate beyond the extremely superficial. Trump can.

That’s what separates the men from the boys for me.

He was asked about Common Core. He explained that nobody wants programs devised in Washington, D. C. and forced on our schools. He said all education should be local.

When addressing Obamacare, he focused mainly on public sector solutions. When he talked about the remaining 45 million not covered, he again said the government should work with the private sector to find solutions.

There are a lot of videos out there. There are a lot of speaches and interviews. I’ve listened to a few of them, and he gets things right.

I agree with you that his core instincts are much better than some would lead you to believe.

I can understand the reluctance. We’ve seen him before and he’s not exactly our idea of the ideal candidate. I still know that Bush will get the nomination of not for Trump. We’ves een that play out over the last five election cycles.

So either we think Trump, or we’re essentially looking at Jebra against Hillary.

I prefer Trump to that.

If Ronald Reagan who IMO was the greatest President of our lifetime was running this year half the people on FR would call him a RINO.

He was perhaps the greatest President of all....and maybe some around here would call him a RINO, but not too many - after all, it was the conservative base who elevated him. If half the base were calling him a RINO, or the equivalent at the time - he would have never emerged.

FYI I was very early to the Reagan train...like I was to the Palin train, the tea party train (VERY EARLY) and the Cruz train.....etc....heck, I was criticizing John McCain as early as 1992 and Rove as early as 2001.

I still don't buy the Reagan Trump analogy.

Neither do I. There will never be another Reagan, unfortunately.

Trump is not Reagan, agreed. But I still support Trump.

Now while I don't support Trump (at this juncture) - this is the kind of discussion that's reasonable - where two people can disagree without calling the other a RINO or establishment dweeb.

I'll even say this about Trump - there will never be another Trump either. He too is one of a kind...and I like a lot of it...but there's a lot I don't like or do not trust at this juncture. BTW, if he wins the nom, I'm voting for him as often as they'll let me. But your'e right, just chill on the Reagan analogy.

I am happy Trump is at least talking about the issues we care about. But in the back of my mind I am waiting for a Perot Redux. I don’t think Trump is paranoid but I really can’t see him putting $10B in a blind trust for 4 years. At this point Cruz is my guy.

Trump really hasn’t spent a whole lot of $$$ becuase the media is giving it to him for free.

Trump is no Reagan but Reagan was not as conservative as we all try to remember him. He was simply a good patriotic American who followed the Constitution and did the right thing in tough times.

Reagan was also a problem solver and a statesman. The last time I felt enthused about voting was for Reagan.

Trump is a problem solver. Statesman? Who knows? He is also not afraid to take action. We need an action oriented problem solver in the Whitehouse. Otherwise this country is toast. That’s why he and Cruz are the only two that stand out.

If you watched the candidate forum in NH last night as did I you would have seen a lot of familiar old faces spewing the same old stuff. None of them when asked could name even one rogue or unnecessary govt agency they could bring themselves to shutter. I can name five. That’s when I realized Trump is right they are all talk and no action.

Reagan was very conservative in principle - very - but he did have a liberal Congress to work with. It’s a very different thing to cave on your principles versus getting the absolute best deal you can given the reality.

On principle, he was far right of Trump for far longer than Trump has been...at least to date.

I have never tried to say Trump is right of Reagan. He’s not the most conservative candidate. He’s likely the most motivated to actually do something.

The United States government is out of control. We no longer operate as a Constitutional republic. Many people have noticed and are pizzed off.

Its five minutes to midnight in this country. We are on the brink of a shooting CW or revolution whatever you want to call it. If the problems are not taken care of soon with a pen they will be taken care of with a gun.

Same old same old just isn’t going to get it this go around.
