I don't understand all the hoopla. Of course he has to be charged. He broke the law. Does it come as a surprise he would be charged?
Does everyone here realize that Pentagon workers get shaken down in the morning? In fact, the day this happened, the Pentagon employees were subjected to random searches. Yes, the most vetted work force on the planet cannot be trusted.
If fact, it is against federal law to keep a weapon in your car because the Pentagon's parking lot is part of a federal reservation. And here is the kicker: the Pentagon is in VIRGINIA, where it would otherwise be legal to carry.

Pentagon: standard entry control procedures for most all (if not ALL) federal buildings. . .everyone is vetted prior to entry. . .not so at a recruiting office. Totally different world.
Charging the officer is over-kill. Period. If the Navy wanted to “do” something they could have had a quiet word, now because of their irrational fear of ARMED members of our ARMED forces, charging him generates much negative attention, and sends a message to terrorists and other such scum that if recruiters try to defend themselves their career, their professional life, is over. . .win-win for the scum.
