The brother of slain Cecil the lion, named Jericho, was killed Saturday in Hwange National Park in Zimbabwe, a senior park official told CNN.
Jericho was gunned down by a hunter operating illegally, said Johnny Rodrigues, head of the Zimbabwe Conservation Task Force.

I wonder if Zimbabwe is just saying that they want the Hunter Palmer meanwhile they turn a blind eye. Now that Jericho has been killed. Who will they blame next? Zimbabwe is corrupt, so I’m thinking that it is all words because they don’t care about the lions.
The dentist will be blamed. Trophy hunting will also take a hit.

What do we really need lions for? All I can come up with
is they are there to look at. I say take some embryos
and some DNA and secure their existence in captivity. The
same for every other, supposedly, endangered species. Trying
to preserve anything in of all places Africa is a joke.

Ivory flow. I’m kidding of course but in this day and age
there is no reason for anything to become extinct. It’s just

Lions kill the cubs of unrelated males when they take over a pride. In both the wild and in captivity it is not unusual to have two males-often brothers-as co-rulers of the pride, sharing the defense of the pride as well as breeding rights. Having two males in charge lessens the chance of takeover of that pride by another male-safety in numbers.
Some years ago, there was a study of domestic cats on several farms in Britain done-the nice kitties were exhibiting pride behavior, including hostile takeovers and killing of the defeated males’ kittens, just like lions do.

Not always-if they are co-rulers, the surviving male doesn’t do cub killing-they might be his-but more often, there are not two males in charge of a pride...
