Trump: I Would Give Non-Criminal Illegal Aliens Legal Status
NewsMax ^ | 7/29/2015 | Greg Richter

Donald Trump says as president he would ultimately give some illegal immigrants legal status and isn't ruling out a pathway to citizenship, CNN reports.

That sounds different than what he said during his June 16 announcement speech when critics say he insulted Mexicans.

"When Mexico sends its people, they're not sending their best. … They're sending people that have lots of problems," he said then. "They're bringing drugs. They're bringing crime. They're rapists. And some, I assume, are good people."

Those who are not committing crimes could find legal status under a Trump administration, he told CNN's Dana Bash in comments aired Wednesday on CNN's "The Situation Room."

"It depends," Trump told Bash. "Look, it sound cold, and it sounds hard. … Our country is going to hell. We have to have a system where people are legally in our country."

While Mexico makes it hard for immigrants to enter, Trump said, "With us they walk across, … immediately they're members, call them members of our country. It's not right. "

One of Trump's GOP rivals, Louisiana Gov. Bobby Jindal, appeared immediately afterward, saying Trump's comments sound a lot like amnesty.

Yeah, there’s plenty of those, but there’s also another generation coming up. Give them a chance at jobs starting as teenagers and you’ll see a whole different dynamic.

“your pro-amnesty Freeper exchanges.”

Then you don’t know me very well. I’ve got 25,000 posts on Free Republic - find me one where I’ve supported Amnesty (other than by saying that we’re simply not going send them out on buses the day after the new president...regardless of who wins).

You’re advocating amnesty on this thread.

"If people were hoping that Trump would simply seal the border and then round up the 11 Million Illegals, put them in buses, and send them home, they are DELUDING THEMSELVES."

It would take more than buses.

How old is this so called policy statement? Just this week he said the opposite. I guess we’ll find out Thursday.

These seem to be the exact same comments that Sherpio pushed, and Trump was talking about 100 percent deportation and allowing the most qualified a legal process to return.

This article is misleading.

If they are here “illegally” is that not a crime?
I guess it’s a matter of semantics.

Don’t confuse people by bringing up the actual facts. Some can’t wait to be “outraged” and “disappointed” by manufactured clickbait headlines.

How about this?

“Deporting all them means that construction TOTALLY ENDS, until millenials can be taught which end of a hammer to hold. Same for agriculture.

Trump knows that, given his background...his problem is that he thinks most conservatives understand that too - they don’t. Not by a long shot.”

But I figured it out. I see you’re from Texas. You guys have so soiled your own nest now with illegals that you can’t see there’s still hope for the rest of the country—if and as we get this addressed.

(The rest of the country has a better educated workforce, too—which explains why you’re particularly jaded on that front as well.)

Did you read the article? The headline is misleading.

It is from NewsMax and CNN. Would those organizations try to mislead the public ?

>>If they are here “illegally” is that not a crime?

Exactly and that’s why “could” covers a lot of ground in between “will not” and “”would”. In our system of law, a crime can be paid for by a combination of incarceration, fines, and restitution. Its only in the last 50 years or so that we’ve decided that a crime is a debt that cannot be paid in full to society so criminals need to stay criminals forever.

Peculiar response there. I'm not dodging anything. I'm just one of those who knew the instant I scanned this Newsmax regurgitation that the Bash interview took place some time ago.

Quite a few thought it was hot off the press.

Being here illegally is not a crime.

Bypassing a US immigration control point is a crime.

Lying on an I-9 is a crime.

Possessing or using a fraudulent “government” ID is a crime.

Inducing someone to create a fraudulent “government” ID is a crime.

Not paying income tax is a crime.

Having a baby in a hospital with no intention to pay the bills is criminal theft of service.

Fair point...I usually note that housing production is 100% dependent on Illegals in the South (and California). The rest of the country maybe 50%. There are a few whites (and blacks) in other areas of the country that can do manual labor...but my point does stand - it is simply TOO DISRUPTIVE at this point to immediately send them home and expect Americans to take over that work - so no politician will do that on our side.

I’m just being a realist on this site - if others disagree with me on this point, I’d like them to speak up.
