While the death of a protected lion in Zimbabwe has caused outrage in the United States much of it centered on the Minnesota dentist who killed the animal most in Zimbabwe expressed a degree of bafflement over the concern.
The discovery that Cecil, the star of Zimbabwe national park had been lured out and killed by American bow hunter Walter James Palmer has resulted in online anger and protests at his dental clinic.
Outside Zimbabwe's environmental and activist circles, however, the reaction been muted.
"It's so cruel, but I don't understand the whole fuss, there are so many pressing issues in Zimbabwe we have water shortages, no electricity, and no jobs yet people are making noise about a lion?" said Eunice Vhunise, a Harare resident. "I saw Cecil once when I visited the game park. I will probably miss him. But honestly the attention is just too much."
An economic meltdown over the past few years has closed many companies and left two-thirds of the population working in the informal economy while battling acute water and electricity shortages.

Don’t forget to include ants. That makes as much sense as your zebra nonsense.
in that part of africa, lions are a pest.
Oh Jimmy, how far you have fallen...
As a point of order, he couldn't take the meat, even if he wanted it - By law, the meat goes to the natives.
By the time I was eight I had a bb gun and was trapping mice. weasels, and skunks... By the time I was 10 I had a .22, a paper route, and a trap line. Bagged my first deer when I was 12, and gutted it mostly myself.
I swear, y'all are touched in the head - I think it should be a requirement for everyone to live for one year only eating what they can kill. It would sure enough get rid of this phony-ass fuzzy bunny bull crap.
I almost pray for SHTF, just for the massive cognitive correction it will impose upon such folks.
That idea predates Disney. It's part of the code the Original Programmer wrote into us.
Whether he grew up with it or heard it in a cowboy/western movie like I think I might have, back on the farm the old man used to tell my brother and sister not to name anything they were going to eat.
It's not a mistake you make twice.
In the former Rhodesia, yes. It was not uncommon in Zambia in the late '70s-early '80s, too.
We named our breakfast, lunch, dinner and second breakfast in honor of Tolkein.
Nothing enhances the taste of food like PCBs!
How 'bout *Spot?*
You ever see Marv Newland's animated cartoon Bambi meets Godzilla? Runs about a minute and a half, counting the credits.
Must not have had a Portugese guide.
I'd pay some serious change to see Jimmy Kimmel eaten by a lion. Or shot by a bowhunter, for that matter.
Betcha he can't outrun the hyenas!
He was never even up. Once the bandleader died, and the girls quit jumping on the trampoline, all that was left was Kimmel and the chubby little kid, and people began to start wondering about Kimmel.
Zicke zacke, zicke zacke, hoi hoi hoi!
Blackandwhite is the new orange?
George Orwell was a prophet. He wrote about two minute hate. Unfortunately, the dentist from Minnesota is the target of two minute hate today. Only thing he did wrong was to lure the Lion out of the protected park and then hunt him. The consequence for that should be a stiff fine, let’s say $10,000.
I agree. I don't have a problem if people in this country eat dog meat. I mean, why not?
Run a deep woods trap line some time. You won't be so picky. And you'll be grateful for what you get.

You beat me by a couple of years. In those years prior to getting my first BB gun, I was still catching minnows and crawdads in the creek next to the house to feed to my turtles and alligator.
Hunting and fishing are an necessary and important part of responsible conservation. Being stupid about life and the food chain is...well, stupid. And yet, for some reason "for food" is not the same as "for sport".
My first point is that those feelings I was talking about exist in all of us. They're built-in and part of the OEM design. Not having them is a serious design flaw worthy of a recall.
And, I agree with you that the more "city-fied" a person is, the stronger and perhaps more irrational those feelings can be.
My second point is also agreeing with you that nothing short of SHTF is going to change those feelings as they are generally applied by the general population today.
So, in situations like this, arguing against emotion is like spitting into a wind that soon turns into a hurricane. None for me, thanks, but hey, if that's what you're into...
Personally, I think it might work better, for example, to use The Planned Parenthood Nightmare Series currently playing like a sail, tacking tactfully into that wind to move something important together in the right direction.
There must be a better way to do that than to pick a fight over emotions, about how "wrong" one is compared to another and so is the person for having it.
Yeah, that's a winner. People love that stuff. Especially women! (Who make up about half of the population, btw)
