another thing I’d say on the legal immigration...if any of those are coming here for the right reasons, the American dream, etc, then they should be predisposed to voting the right way. I think it speaks to the tepid messaging of the GOP that they’re not.
We have a kinship system of immigration. We are not bringing in the best and the brightest. 20% of the legal immigrant heads of household lack a high school diploma. 87% of the 1.1 million legal immigrants who enter each year are minorities as defined by the USG. They are natural Dem constituents. Immigrants and minorities vote more than two to one Democrat.
Several years ago I briefed Eric Cantor on immigration in a hour long one-on-one session. My final question to him was, "If these immigrants were voting Republican instead of Democrat, would the Democrats allow such numbers to enter?" He laughed and said that they wouldn't stand for it. I replied, then why are we? No answer.
