Nixon wasnt impeached. He resigned before that was going to happen. But he was indeed hounded for less.
I remember that the tape recorder has a blown diode in the power supply rectifier bridge, they replaced the bridge before attempting to duplicate the problem. Low and behold the 60 cycle hummmmm recorded over that 18 minute gap couldn’t be duplicated after the power supply fix!
Ergo, the hummmmmm was deliberate!
At least that’s how it was reported...
