Trump tells Union Leader: No endorsement, no show (New Hampshire)
unionleader.com ^

Posted on 07/29/2015 5:52:53 AM PDT by RoosterRedux

Donald Trump is still not participating in next Monday’s Voters First Presidential Forum in New Hampshire, but now he says it is because he thinks he is unlikely to get the New Hampshire Union Leader’s endorsement and, besides, he thinks there are too many candidates for one event.

Given a deadline of last Friday, Trump’s office had said he would not participate because of a Union Leader editorial critical of him for questioning U.S. Sen. John McCain’s Vietnam war record. At an Iowa event, Trump had disputed that McCain was a “war hero,” saying, “He’s a war hero because he was captured. I like people that weren’t captured.”

But Tuesday, in a letter to Union Leader Publisher Joseph W. McQuaid, Trump wrote: “...knowing you as I do, I feel it is unlikely I will be getting the endorsement from you and the Union Leader. I have made a great fortune based on instinct and that, unfortunately, is my view. Therefore, and for other reasons including the fact that I feel there are too many people onstage to have a proper forum, I will not be attending.”

I wouldnt count that as a qualification to who IS or ISNT a “freeper”...

I would think that those who time and again support the RINO or the UNI-Party candidate or the bombastic fool whos job it is to split the conservative vote are the REAL “NON - Freepers”...

And so often it seems as though the 1998 / 1999 creation date comes with accounts who supported the fake conservatives during countless primaries. Or the RINO’s like Arnold, MCain, Romney or more recently Thad “emmer effer” Cochran...

Businessmen are always looking to take the best advantage of the existing laws and tax codes. At least the successful ones do.

I'm all for simplifying our laws and tax codes so that we can eliminate all the loopholes. But we can't fault businessmen for exploiting those loopholes in the meantime.

The title is misleading.

“...knowing you as I do, I feel it is unlikely I will be getting the endorsement from you and the Union Leader..."

Those are quotes from Trump's letter, unless the paper is lying, being the lib rag it is, it's possible...

It smacks of the worst type of politics, very lib/progressive like of Trump to play this type of game...

I certainly understand trying to manipulate the media to get positive or balanced reporting...

This is entirely different...

It's screw you if you don't endorse me, which in the end is screwing the people of NH...

What p!ssed Trump off was the way they distorted what he said about McCain. He figured that any paper who would do that will not endorse him...so eff’em.

I get that...he could have addressed that in the debate and embarrass the paper for the liberal rag it is!

He figured that any paper who would do that will not endorse him...so eff’em.

So will he blow off every debate and event where he isn't getting the local paper endorsement...?

I like Trump for what he doing to the uni-party, (I don't think he has a chance to get the nomination), but this type of politics turns me off in a big way...

As well as many FReepers, including some of those who think they are more “real” than others. I think Trump wants to win the NH primary on his own and then thumb his nose at the Union Leader.

And frankly, I’m for anything that diminishes the role of these early primaries, including NH.

Therefore, Trump is a pretty successful guy.
Not many make it back from bankruptcy, Trump has done it more than once. Simply using the law to his advantage.

It's screw you if you don't endorse me, which in the end is screwing the people of NH.

Baloney!

You cannot believe he is seriously thinking they might promise to endorse him/not endorse him if he appears/refuses to appear at their structurally untenable and irrelevant debate. He is writing this to a media member, and you think he is thinking: "Wow! Look at how I am manipulating the media behind the scenes to endorse me, and no one will ever know" Do you really believe that?

Trump would be disappointed if they didn't release this letter.

The people of NH will be just fine and will not feel violated whether Trump appears at this silly debate of 75 GOP presidential candidates -- as if you really give a hoot.

The media smears him and then expects him to honor their invitation to take pot shots at him? He is signalling to you and anyone else he doesn't give a flying flip, and yet people still are trying to read some typical political ploy into his campaign.

If you don't realize this is a guy who cannot help but announce as loudly as possible precisely what is on his mind, there is no way anyone can help you.

His campaign manager is from NH and I imagine Trump acted on his input as to how to handle the Union Leader.

Where did I write that nonsense or think I believe it..?

Yeah, I'm pretty helpless when it comes to thinking for myself.../ S

[And what better way to get even than to boycott their forum and allow them, and the other 15 candidates, to take shots at him without fear of contradiction? Trumps a political genius.]

TRUMP will take them on one by one AFTER the debate.

I was wondering the same thing....

Basically, if a paper won’t endorse him, he will throw a tantrum and not participate.

Yep, VERY BRAVE and VERY Presidential...

He'd better. Because he's going to get his clock cleaned at the debate itself.

It's right at the top in my reply post to your original one. I italicized it for you after copying it from your post.
Yeah, I'm pretty helpless when it comes to thinking for myself.
Figure of speech employed to emphasize that I think Trump says precisely what's on his mind and cannot even help himself if he tried. That is why I think your reading into this that he is actually trying to gain an endorsement is reading much more into it than you need to.

Not technically, but he comes off as ethically-challenged:

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Trump_Winery

Trump bought the 1,300-acre vineyard and winery for a fraction of its original value. He was criticized for his “ethics” during this acquisition. He began by buying the 200 acres surrounding the property for less than $500,000. He then placed “No Trespassing” signs around the property. This warded off potential buyers and gave Trump exclusive access to the property. This forced the property into foreclosure and gave Trump the opportunity to buy the land from Bank of America for $3.6 million, a small fraction of the property’s real worth ($12M).[6] Development and renovation of the property was given to Eric Trump, who also supervised the acquisition.
