I am aware that Hispanics, at least in TX have decided to call themselves "White", at least as far as the driver's license system and legal classification. With no disrespect, I'm not sure about that claim. I have lived many years in South and Central TX, and It it my theory that they are at least partially of American Indian descent. One reason that I believe this is if you have ever watched any of Mexican TV, the people from central Mexico all appear to be Caucasian in ethnicity, but in South TX, the "hispanics" actually appear to me to be of Native American descent. I mean no disrespect to any race.
So-called Hispanics on the American Continent are mostly a mix of Spanish or Portugeuse with American Indian, AFAIK.
With the predominance of their language, religion and culture being Anglo, the are classified as Caucasian... though some would term them Mestizo due to the mix. ....JMO
You’re right. The Indians in Mexico refer to the Mexicans who are only European as Mexicans and the use the word disparagingly.
