The adults patrolling the playpen of Republican politics are appalled that weve become a society where its O.K. to make fun of veterans, to call anyone who isnt rich a loser, to cast an entire group of newly arrived strivers as rapists and shiftless criminals.
Somewhere, we crossed a line from our mothers modesty to strutting braggadocio, from dutiful decorum to smashing all the china in the room, from respecting a base set of facts to a trumpeting of willful ignorance.
Yes, how did we get to a point where up to one-fourth of the party of Lincoln, Eisenhower and Reagan now aligns itself with Donald Trump? Those same political marshals would have us believe hes a demagogue, a jackass, a cancer.
They say hes trashing the Republic brand. They say hes stirring up the crazies, in the words of Senator John McCain. But Trump is the brand, to a sizable degree. And the crazies have long flourished in the Republican media wing, where any amount of gaseous buffoonery goes unchallenged.

“cast an entire group of newly arrived strivers”
There’s reaching, and then there’s reaching; this is hyper-reaching.

No, stupid, we crossed the line when we allowed a blind, dumb jackass named Liberalism to lead America. And everything this dumb jackass says, Americans believe because Americans are desperate to be hip and trendy and politically correct. That's the problem we have.

“newly arrived strivers”? You mean the guy who stole my car last year? And the other who stabbed a man right down the street at a senior center?
Those strivers?
And I live in a good neighborhood on the right side of the tracks. I can only imagine what the strivers are striving for in less “safe” areas.

* newly arrived strivers as rapists and shiftless criminals. *
CORRECTION:
ILLEGAL INVADERS are:
Newly arrived rapists and shiftless criminals called newly arrived strivers.

And if he doesnt win, Trump said, it would be very hard to support pretty much any of the other Republican candidates.
'I may just sort of, like, shift off into the moonlight,' he said. 'I hope that wont be the case. I hope that wont be the case, but it could very well be.'"
But
why should that surprise anyone?

Trump is The Revenge of the Tea Party. Treat a big section of your own party like they were poop on your shoe—then expect them to turn to a Trump or a Palin or a Cruz. We might be seeing the Death of the GOP. I am sure the Whigs didn’t think they would be doomed when the Republicans were formed in the late 1840s—out of the old Anti-Slavery Party. The people are sick of Socialism—Americans see it as Anti-American with only a small secion of the population going along with this failed ideal. Deep inside—People want to be Trump! They would love to be as Rich as he is—they would want a gold plated White House. They believe he might just bring back Jobs.

The left is going completely nuts about this. I love it.

Trump is a byproduct of all the toxic elements Republicans have thrown into their brew over the last decade or so from birtherism to race-based hatred of immigrants, from nihilists who shut down government to elected officials who shout You lie! at their commander in chief. Another self-imp;ortant, self-righteous, sniveling little bigot and slurmonger. Not worth reading any further.

Yes, I've long thought the argument that says "when you need a job, do you go to a poor person or a homeless bum looking for a position, or do you look for some guy who owns a successful company and is therefor probably well off?" is a strong argument, and even people who are inclined to by somewhat sympathetic to left-wing "eat the rich" argument are swayed by it because deep down they know it's true.
Of course nothing will ever sway the hard-core lefties out there, but they are only about 25% of the voting population (did I just say "only" ? SMH...), and not all of them actually turn out to vote.
