This is what belt-tightening looks like in Russia: Vladimir Putin has fired 110,000 government officials at a stroke.
The Russian president signed a decree last week limiting the number of staff employed by the Interior Ministry to just over one million. That requires massive layoffs that will bring total headcount down by 10%.

I hope Cruz doubles that target in 2017.
Way to go Vlad.
Isn’t he worried about the government employees’ union?
I guess not.
I can’t believe that Russia and the US have flipped economic models since the Cold War! And we thought we won! LOL!
Russia isn’t that bad in that there’s a flat tax of 13%. But corruption is a huge drain on the economy. Putin needs to tackle corruption. Needs to make an example out of few egregious cases by having violators shot.
That might affect the unemployment rate a tad.
Did they all get a one-way ticket to The Lubyanka, as their severance?
You’re fired! 535 would be a good start here. Then, a multiplier of 100,000 to kick out in the first month.; UNaccountable bureaucrats (socialists) are too expensive.
Save a republic, fire the government and its progressive pigs sloughing at the trough.

He has erected a multitude of New Offices, and sent hither swarms of Officers to harrass our people, and eat out their substance.
I believe that corruption is a large part of Putin’s power.
Russia is still a top-down, statist, command-and-control country
Its just that now they happen to have a Czar who believes more in the free-market, less bureaucratic interference, and in Christianity. If anything threatened his control, he would go the other direction in a second.
I prefer what used to be the American way - limited government, local and not central control - with civil society, tradition, 800 years of legal and human rights precedence, and Christian morality guiding society instead. This is on its way out.
the USA, Russia and China all seem to be meeting in the middle.
At least HE understands the principle of government being TOO BIG......................
Any word on how many employees of the FSB fired?
If this is 10% of the total, then the interior ministry has over one million employees. The population of Russia is around 142 million people, so the workforce is likely to be around 70 million.
Therefore, one out of 70 Russian workers are employed just at the interior ministry. When you add I other government.agencies, the military, and local government, the percentage must be very high.
It would be nice to have a president who cared about America as much as Mr. Putin seems to care about Russia.
The ba$tard wanting to cut government like that.
Maybe Putin should run for President instead of some of the slugs running now.
