“Substitute Clintons North Korea nuke deal and see how that one turned out.”
Precisely, and the fact that this pseudo intellectual writes a piece about Americans ignoring true history, while he ignores the directly relevant history of the North Korean deal, is an ironic indictment of his ideology-driven blindness. People like him are all throwbacks, and the absolute opposite of the ‘progressive visionaries’ they so want to characterize themselves as.
I think it ends up as an imaginary number!
I think people like this “intellectual” will help ensure a nuclear device going off somewhere in the US and still blame us for it
“What we really need to do around here is to shoot a few more intellectuals”- Nikita Kruschev
Ahhh, yes; young Patrick would be the one on the forward deck - self assured and smug in this blanket while holding a cup of hot chocolate as he mires himself in the iceberg that is actually the part SEEN. Yet, he would not comprehend it; this adolescent narcissist would interpret it as something of a symbolic monument to HIS own (faux) intellect as his titanic steam ship hurtles forward...towards it...ever closer. Two hours later, we’d find little Patrick to be the first on the lifeboat, watching in glee as his ocean liner sinks below the surface and as the last of the ‘real men’ drown. He would muse to himself “...That is all fine and well. The galley never could make for me a decent cup of cocoa.”
I would have guessed it was the scribblings from the diary of a snippy H.S. student having just attended her first poli-sci class - the one lead by the skinny teacher with whom she is infatuated who plays guitar and talks about the vegan lifestyle quite often.
That's the best part of the article.
The first grouping of names is neocons, exceptionalists, and xenophobes which he then augments to include know nothings, tea party, and the Trump crowd. After which he includes warmongers.
Then he says "includes democrats" who he identifies as the "shameful creatures of AIPAC", which includes Shumer, Menendez, Corey Booker, Gillibrand, and any other dem that relies heavily on campaign money from AIPAC.
Next it is "reactionaries, militarists, and nostalgists" who he then calls "solitary laggards"
He also groups it as "virtually all major powers" and "all secondary and minor powers", with the exception of Israelis and Saudis, which means it is the GOP, Israelis and Saudis against the rest of the world.
The world keeps getting smaller and the global economy more integrated. An independent foreign policy gives way to an interdependent foreign policy. A GOP unilateralist foreign policy loses to the multilateralism of P5 plus 1.
I’m saving this for when Iran launches the first nuke. Not that the author will give a damn that he was so horribly wrong, they never do, but it will give me a certain sense of satisfaction to throw it back in his face.
That iceberg thing is too special for words. Seems Smith is immune to his own irony.
A fraction of the first prime number at best. I am thankful for the FReepers who are willing to endure the stench to post their apparatchik bile here as I refuse to click on any Salon or Slate link.
I'm not sure what these people think will follow the abdication of Pax Americana but I'm confident nobody is going to like it.
Perhaps they believe the UN can keep the peace?
Yeah.
