(CNN)Anger over Sandra Bland's death in a Texas jail has boiled over after newly released video showed what happened at the traffic stop that led to her arrest.
Now, many question whether she should have been arrested at all.
The dashcam video shows Texas state Trooper Brian Encinia pulling Bland over July 10 for allegedly failing to use her turn signal. What started as normal conversation gets testy after Encinia asks her to put out her cigarette.

A lit cigarette is a potential danger to an officer’s safety.
If an officer doesn’t want a person who he is investigating to be next to him while holding a burning object, then he can order that person to extinguish the burning object, thus rendering it a threat no longer.

This report says that the DA is conducting the inquiry into Bland’s death as if it were a Murder!
He can tell her to put it down, I said that before. He can also tell her not to smoke while he is talking to him. Sure. But if she sets a lit cigarette onto the ashtray, he can’t then tell her to put it out. Her putting it out has nothing to do with the performance of a traffic stop.

And apparently the people in charge of this officer ain't buying it either because he has been pulled from street duty.

Since cig smoke is commonly used to mask MJ then yes, smoking can interfere with his duty to detect drug usage. Also, it can be used to burn the cop so for officer safety he can order it out.
Again, as shown in the statutes provided, any order that does not directly contradict state/federal law or civil rights is deemed a lawful order according to State law. If you don’t like the law then change it, but otherwise you must follow the law.

He violated the courtesy policy which is why he is on desk duty. He didn’t violate any law.

The only exception is searches a probable cause. Which neither apply in this case.
She had a really bad attitude. Evidently, she may have had an arrest record. They mentioned a record, but didn’t say what it was for.
People act like the policeman killed her. She could have taken him to court if he didn’t follow procedure, but she chose to kill herself. Also interesting she spent 3 days in jail. Wouldn’t anyone in her family help pay her bond?
