Why do cars need to be connected to the Sprint cell phone network?

Do any other cars have this problem? Why is there any need for the operations of a car to be internet accessible in the first place???

For your safety. And the children of course.

One reason is so you can locate your car if it’s stolen.

Right now, any car that has an internet connection to the entertainment system and has the entertainment system connected to the CAN Buss has the potential for hacking.

CAN was designed before the internet and has no security system in place.

IMHO, no one should buy a car with this kind of connectivity until the system until the CAN system is firewalled from any internet connectivity.

Makes life a lot easier for the bureaucrats at the NSA.

“Why do cars need to be connected to the Sprint cell phone network?”

How else will they know how many miles you’ve driven and how much tax to collect?
