Why was Donald Trump asked about his relationship with God? He answers the question honestly, he said no, he had not asked for forgiveness from God. A good number of people would say they had just to be expedient. I expect that Trump has his spiritual life worked out with God and that what I would think of as asking for forgiveness is different from his approach to the same situation. I accept that Trump is a Christian and loves God and beyond that it is none of my business what arrangement he and God have with his spiritual self.
I actually think his approach is refreshing. At least he understands that he’s accountable - for everything.
You contrast that with folks that understand they are forgiven and act like it by continuing to act like a bull in a china shop, judging others for their imperfections - secure in the knowledge they are saved.
He and God will have some sort of reckoning before long on the issue of asking Him for forgiveness. I don’t think God needs me to help Donald Trump with that.
I’ll take a guy who tries to reckon his own actions and do right by everyone he meets over a Christian who acts like he’s got unlimited mulligans every day - twice on Sunday.
Wonder why they have to ask so often?
Maybe it has something to do with the fact that Trump’s father’s middle name was Christ? The Donald figures he’s part of the family.
I saw this post on another (linked) thread, about this subject. I found this answer to be quiet humbling, for me, and I agree with it, completely. I couldn’t say it better, so I copied onto this thread. I hope that’s okay, Tucker39...
I dont think Ive ever asked God for forgiveness....(formally).
1st Corinthians 11:25 & 26 ....do this in remembrance of me. For as often as you eat this bread, and drink this cup you proclaim the Lords death until He comes back.
And The Donald said, Every time I drink the little thing of wine, and eat the little cracker I feel cleansed...
He could have lied. He could have parsed some BS Clintonesque story. He could have half-truth finnessed it. But he didnt. He manned up and admitted that hed never formally asked God for forgiveness....but that he took communion as often as possible, and felt cleansed when he did it.
Yes, there is the subsequent verse regarding partaking of the elements unworthily. But the context surely refers to Pauls scolding the Corinthians for corrupting the communion service into a gluttonous drinking tie one on occasion.
Would I prefer that Trump have had an eye popping testimony of getting saved when God personally appeared to him and.....fill in the blanks. But God hasnt. And Trump opened a window and let us look into his soul. What I saw was a sinner just like me, who is walking the strait and narrow the best he can, ACCORDING TO THE TEACHING HES HAD THROUGH LIFE. And God isnt finished with Trump. In fact, I think Gods actually just getting started with him.

Tax collector and the Pharisee.
We have too many “holier than thou” politicians.
You can criticize this politician because of X reason.
God gave me a good brain, and a strong body.
It is up to me to use those gifts from God.
God has no obligation to carry my burdens.
I have prayed a lot for success during my life.
But I never begged God to solve my problems.
If I did something stupid, it is not God’s fault.
It is my own fault for not using my brain.
Good for Trump. At least he didn’t pull out a five pound Bible and say “Vote for me. I’m a Christian.” I remember several past presidents who did that.
Well Presbyterian Eucharistic liturgy is quite short on seeking forgiveness of sin, save for their use of The Lord’s Prayer:
“...and forgive us our debts, as we forgive our debtors....”
One would guess Trump never meant it, or wasn’t listening to himself.
Not exactly what he said
The Lord’s Prayer covers it. All Christian services receit don’t they?
So given that what the above say is accurate, Trump is not really a Christian. He goes through the motions but has no faith??? This is not good for Trump.
This thread is a case study on why we’re in the incredible mess we’re in.
