Cruz calls McCain an American Hero
Ted Cruz ^ | 7/19/2015 | Ted Cruz

John McCain is an American hero. Although we have some policy disagreements, I'm proud to serve alongside him.

Sorry, selfdefense, McCain was heroic in Vietnam. Not by getting shot down, but for two reasons:

1) he went when called to go

2) after capture and severe injuries, he was offered an early release (the NVA thought that having the son of the Pacific Fleet Commander released early would break the spirit of the other POWs). McCain refused and was thrown into solitary for another 4 years.

That said, his record in the Senate is not heroic. There is little that he has done or said that I agree with. But that doesn't change what he did years before.

Sorry Ted....McCain is not an American hero and I don’t understand how anyone could be proud serving with him....Your playing politics Ted....

Thus my angst with those that are running on the R ticket other than Trump. They are all politicians (excepting Carson and Fiorina, but they need the $$ from donorrs) and play it that way. Trump is free to say what is on his mind, for better or for worse. It certainly is refreshing, and IMO needed.

I'm happy (but suspicious) that the Men Seeking Men mediums are so interested in what Ted Cruz thinks about Donald Trump's comments.

Do they also care about Cruz's thoughts on taxes? How 'bout ObamaDon'tCare? What about the overall size and scope of government?

Republicans need to figure out that the only time they are going to be able to bust through the All Hillary All The Time news coverage is whenever one of their competitors says or does something controversial.

I would completely sidestep the question and go straight into my stump speech.

Those policy disagreements are as different as day and night. Having said that, Ted did vote with the majority in the Senate for that trade bill. I get them mixed up, but, Tom Cotton is the only one who voted against TPP. If I’m not mistaken, Ted didn’t vote as he was out on the campaign trail. I wonder how he would have voted if given the chance?

Trump also called McCain a “hero because he was captured”. And he’s right.

If McCain had dies in any number of crashes he was the pilot for, or had he not have been captured, McCain would have no ‘legend’ of heroism.

“I prefer heroes that are not captured” means true heroes that give their lives to save others.

F the Trumpbot shit Nick. FR is the most ungroupthink haven for independant thought on the net.

Dismissing a genuine attration to a frame of mind which so matches your own and defending your synergy to it, makes you legitimate.

There is no lie or dishonesty. There exists nothing, no foundation from which you can (legitimately) launch an offense.

Persuade with facts Nick. Subjectivism is the enemy of the people. Facts Nick?

“I have tremendous respect for McCain but I don’t buy the war hero thing. Anybody can be captured. I thought the idea was to capture them. As far as I’m concerned he sat out the war.”

Nope. Not Donald Trump. Al Franken.

Ted did vote with the majority in the Senate for that trade bill. I get them mixed up, but, Tom Cotton is the only one who voted against TPP.

What are TPA and TPP?
TPA stands for Trade Promotion Authority, also known as “fast track”. TPA is a process by which trade agreements are approved by Congress. Through TPA, Congress sets out up-front objectives for the Executive branch to achieve in free trade negotiations; in exchange for following those objectives, Congress agrees to hold an up-or-down vote on trade agreements without amendments. For the past 80 years, it has proven virtually impossible to negotiate free-trade agreements without the fast-track process.

TPP stands for Trans-Pacific Partnership. TPP is a specific trade agreement currently being negotiated by the United States and 11 other countries, including Canada, Japan, Australia, and New Zealand. China is not a negotiating partner. There is no final language on TPP because negotiations are still ongoing and have been since late 2009. Neither the Senate nor the House has voted yet on the TPP. There will be no vote on TPP until the negotiations are over and the final agreement is sent to Congress.

He is not siding against Trump. I think he should have said nothing positive about McCain. Perhaps he felt he had to. This whole issue is just getting more and more stupid. People saying he was hero or wasn’t a hero doesn’t make it true or false. It is pretty irrelevant to anything we are facing today. What they are doing is wasting time that should be spent actually talking about things that matter, all to beef up McCain’s ego.

What I hate is how the media creates the firestorm. . and now to put out the fire. . everyone has to genuflect to McCain's war hero status. Right now, McCain's war experience is irrelevant. . .what IS relevant. . .and what Trump was focused upon with regard to McLame. . .was McLame's outragious statement referring to 15,000 Arizonians, who attended Trump's event, as "crazies.". .THAT SHOULD BE THE STORY!!!. . but it's not. . .and so. .like lemmings we see our candidates kissing McCain's backside. .while conservatives form the circle firing squad.

I don't care that Trump spoke insensitively about McCain's war record. . .McCain is a jerk!

Trumpbots would rip up the Constitution to support their boy.

/sigh

Was this way with Perot too. Not a chance in hades to win, yet so many conservatives bought into his simplistic, populist nonsense. Perot was less clown, more erratic old chap - but the same thing is at play.

Once Trump realizes he can't win the GOP nomination, there is at least some chance he will run independent and do nothing but siphon off some % of right of center voters. He won't break the GOP, teach the GOPe a lesson or start a revolution, no, he'll just hand the keys to the White House to Hillary. And no, he won't win Democrats, "moderates", Hispanics, etc. Just some angry, misguided folks on the right.

A diplomatic response by Cruz. Too bad he didn't take the occasion to point out that a lot of the men and womyn Juan McCainez referred to as "crazies" are also American heroes.

Odds are there are at least a few wounded combat veterans who are Trump supporters.

If one ever research McCain military record you would find one of the record of a real jackass. Totally. He wrecked military aircraft because he was a rotten pilot. The only reason he graduated was because of his admiral father. Check it out. This piece of crap is no hero but a real screw up. No wonder he got shot down.

Agree..I’m not looking for a perfect conservative, just one that stands up for himself, fights the leftists amd the media and Trump seems to be able to do that. The rest of these guys are just so disappointing and predictable. I’ve been through them all, HW Bush, Dole, W, McCain and Romney. The Republicans always remind me of that scene in Braveheart where William Wallace makes his alliance with Robert the Bruce. Then they fight the Battle of Falkirk and Wallace pulls the helmet off the Englishman and finds out its Robert the Bruce. Now, maybe Trump turns out to be Robert the Bruce, but at least he’s taking the fight to everyone right now and is not following like everyone else. Still, Ted is my #2, but theickimgs are really slim after that.

Disappointing. Cruz should not have let himself get pressured to say something positive about McCain, especially after the “crazies” comment.

What is amazing to me is that McCain has spent the last 30 years thumbing his nose at the Republican party and the stupid establishment hacks run to his defense like a little kid getting picked on at the playground.
