Donald Trump on Sunday stuck to his guns after igniting criticism over the weekend when he questioned Arizona Senator John McCain's status as war hero, and said the Republicans attacking him are irked by his recent polling success.
"What happened is, later on, the Republican candidates, some of whom are registering 1 percent and zero, and they’re very upset that I’m leading the polls by actually a nice margin," Trump said on ABC's This Week. "They’re extremely upset."
Trump has been at or near the top of several national polls recently, including a Fox News Poll out last week, which had Trump leading among Republicans with 18 percent.

Trump's ABC appearance came one day after he ignited a firestorm of criticism after he said at the Iowa Family Leadership Summit that McCain, a former Navy pilot who was held for more than five years in Vietnam after his plane was shot down in 1967, qualifies as a war hero only "because he was captured."
Most of the Republican presidential candidates and the Republican National Committee swiftly condemned the comments, with the notable exception of Senator Ted Cruz of Texas. So did press magnate Rupert Murdoch, whose Fox News network will be hosting the first presidential debate next month and will be deciding which of the 16 major Republican candidates get the coveted 10 seats on the stage.
A number of leading Democrats also spoke out against Trump, including the party's presidential front-runner, Hillary Clinton, and Secretary of State John Kerry.

McCain crashed 3 aircraft and very nearly missed graduating LAST at Annapolis.

His success is entirely owing to first being son to an Admiral and then by marrying to a very rich woman.

And may I add, dragnet2, some of those people at the Phoenix gathering had family members who were killed by illegal aliens, which makes McCain’s comments all the more outrageous.
They stick up for McCaine but don’t have a word to say about not flying the flag half mast for the servicemen killed by the terrorist.
However they did give a friendly nod to Islam for Ramadan.
I despise the GOPe almost as much as the democrats.

What did McCain hope to gain trashing Americans that want something done about the border by calling them crazies?
Speaking of Kerry, wasn’t it Kerry who accused his fellow soldiers of war atrocities. Wasn’t it Kerry who accused war heroes of barbarism? Never heard much criticism there.
This is a tempest in a tea pot. If this is the best they have to throw at Trump they are in trouble. Right now I think Trump is assessing who his friends are before the second act begins.
If Trump prevails and survives he will dominate this and may just run away with the prize!

TRUMP was defending those McCain referred to as ‘crazies’ (which includes the majority of FR) It must have been a “natural reflex of the mouth” moment.
Wonder why Sarah hasn’t chimed in either supporting McCain or Trump? She generally courageously voices her opinion.
I believe that this account should be at a least bounced against the following, that might a reader more easily sort out the facts from the exaggerations and just flat out B.S.

As this article points, out, most of McCain’s awards were for the period of over 5 years as a POW, or during his post Vietnam service. The implication that all of his awards were doing his last combat tour is quite demonstrably false.
Did he receive special treatment? I think no doubt, but that could have also been a two edged sword in respect to his POW days.
I have always avoided his POW days for two reasons: the stories are very contradictory, all of them can’t all be true. The people who were there and are in a position to know (certainly among that I know persoally) are not saying. Something like this anonymous piece is useless.
But, you don’t need to go after McCain’s military career, his infidelity, treatment of his wife when she was ill, Keating Five scandal, and his voting and political record is all that you need to understand that he is a snake and a despicable person.
McStain might get Swiftboated. You never know who might stand up and speak out. A lot of folks have had enough.
I have noticed a huge amount of Walker buzz and press, which seems VERY orchestrated given how quickly the media dropped Cruz. Then again, Walker has double digit polling---the only one other than Bush and Trump. Still seems a little forced.
Just more target practice for the Donald. I just want to enjoy it while it lasts.

I can’t stand McCain or Kerry, but I will give them this, they went when their country called. Niether of them weaseled deferment after deferment like Trump. Trump didn’t have the balls to go. At least McCain and Kerry did. Trump’s campaign is a clown car running full speed of the cliff trailing the very same Freepers behind him who trashed him during the last election.
Hmmmm. Doesn’t she have a house in Az. I’m wondering if a senate run for McCains seat is in the works.

Copies of Trump’s official paperwork with the draft board are open to all at the website called Smoking Gun. He signed up with his local board 4 days after his 18th birthday. He apparently took the four one-year student deferments to go through college but then reported to the draft board. Something was picked up during his physical so he was asked to return in 4 months which he did. He signed up then and was put in the draft pool and very luckily for him and others with higher numbers, his turned out to be 356 out of the top of 365.
Only if the war had expanded would he would have been called but he did go through the entire process and didn’t take advantage of things by say going to get a Masters which would have bought him more deferments. That was a common practice as was getting a PhD.
