Like clockwork, gun control advocates always make a big push for their agenda after every mass shooting. The recent shootings in Charleston and Chattanooga are no different. Due to our government’s failure to keep firearms out of the hands of mass shooters, President Obama has since called for tighter background checks. But this time he wants to utilize the information tied to Social Security beneficiaries.
Basically, those who are incapable of managing their own affairs wouldn’t be allowed to buy a firearm. The new policy would use the same strategy employed by the VA to report certain veterans to the background check system. They take note of anyone who has assigned a fiduciary to manage their pension when they’re not competent enough to do it themselves. The biggest problem with this strategy, is how broad it is. Having memory loss or a brain injury would be enough keep you from buying a gun, even though those conditions are not useful for identifying someone who is crazy or malicious. Imagine if you suffered an injury that prevents you from speaking or writing. It would make sense for you to ask someone else to help you out with your financial affairs, but that might also be enough to prevent you from owning a firearm.
In reality, this is probably just another attempt to find a new pathway for gun control. They’re trying to chip away the rights of a demographic that isn’t as visible to the public, so they can set a precedent for taking away the rights of everyone else later on. This is “slippery slope” 101.

Your advice is all well and good; however, it is that vast, unwashed, tattooed, pierced and drugged multitude that sees beauty in evil.
Looks like his actions will raise gun and ammo purchases though the roof again.

It seems like every week, I read about some geezer who has gone postal and shoots up everyone at the Senior Center. It would happen more often, but they forget where they put their car keys or their ammo. This is a clear and present danger to the general public, isn’t it?
OK, I fess up, I’ve never read about such a thing. What I do run across on a rather regular basis is a report that some little old lady or old man has encountered an intruder intent on theft and violence and meets his unfortunate end at the end of a gun. The police arrive just in the nick of time with a double load of crime scene tape. Old people are preyed upon by criminal thugs who think that they are weak and undefended. When the government takes these people away from their ability to defend their homes, they will have no chance.
I pay into the system for my entire life, get a small fraction of what I would have gotten if I was handling that money on my own, AND they take away my guns?

It’s time to remove ALL WEAPONS that pose a life-taking threat FROM the ILLEGAL ALIEN IN CHIEF and ALL his Secret Service employees!

From many of the Vets I talked to seems PTSD has turned into an easy route to freeload for ‘some’ claimants. Maybe its over-diagnosed.
On another thought, I am not real sure its a real good idea that someone really bummed out with PTSD to be carrying.
Some might counter that the 2nd Amendment should be all-inclusive. In that case those that act crazy with guns will have to be sifted out by responsible carriers, just like in the “Old West”.
In Texas, have not had one Dr. ask anything about guns. First one that does is not going to appreciate my response.
When the free ride is shut down, that vast, unwashed, tattooed, pierced and drugged multitude will become much more responsible when the stomach growling becomes a regular.
I turn it back on them and ask, “do you?”. So far, they have either laughed or gotten indignant but my point is made. Next question?
I’ve never had a doctor in Maine ask me, or any of my relatives, anything about owning a firearm.
How long will it be before the government defines conservatives and Christians as ‘disabled’?
It is over-diagnozed, but there are still many, many veterans that are messed up big time and deserve all the help they get. No reason to take their guns from them, unless a judge has ruled them incompetent.
It will probably happen during Empress Hillary’s reign.
How loud would the screaming be if they disallowed anyone on public assistance?
