A 48-year-year old off-duty black federal police officer is still alive after being shot by Seaside Police officers early Friday morning.
Just before 1:30am, officers responded to a call reporting a loud, drunk woman at a house in the 1100 block of Amador Avenue, according to a statement by the Seaside Police Department. Officers gave her a courtesy ride back to her house in the 1200 block of Palm Avenue.
As officers were helping the woman to her door, her husband stepped outside with a gun and officers shot at him. He is Eric Glazier, a federal police lieutenant since 1997 at Naval Support Activity Monterey, the base where Naval Postgraduate School is located.
Seaside police asked District Attorney Dean Flippo to investigate the shooting, as is the SSPD's custom in officer-involved shootings. Flippo agreed, and his investigators arrived on the scene at about 2:30am.
Flippo spoke with members of the media Friday afternoon, but few details are being released at this time.
"He displayed a gun," Flippo said. Investigators aren't sure yet whether the weapon was government-issued or not. They're also not sure whether the man fired his gun, or even pointed it at his wife or the responding Seaside cops.

There’s a knock at the door. You get your gun and open the door. It’s a cop! Bang! You’re dead for having a gun in your own home.
I don’t know if that’s what happened. But it has happened elsewhere. Cops shot a kid for opening the door with a TV remote in his hand.
What is a “federal police officer”?
Just about every agency of the federal government has its own police force. It’s ridiculous. For example, even the NIH has its own department.
I wouldn’t be too quick to dump on the responding officers.
This guy may have had a attitude thinking himself to be the top dog on scene. We’ll see how it plays out.
I don’t care who you are, if you brandish in front of officers, you’re messing with fire.
In this case the federal police officer works at the security force at the Navy base where NPS is located.
A police officer who works for a federal agency. The US Capitol Police are federal officers. The Secret Service has a uniformed police division. They are the ones who “guard” the White House.
I agree. There aren’t enough details to know what happened here.
How old is that Pontiac in front of the house?
“I dont care who you are, if you brandish in front of officers, youre messing with fire.”
It’s sad that that’s where we are today. Protect and Serve are long gone and forgotten.
“Theres a knock at the door. You get your gun and open the door.”
Your first mistake is opening your door without knowing who’s on the other side of it.
Just wondering....what does the fact that he’s black have to do with anything????????
They're being very coy with the specifics here. Was his gun holstered or in his hand? Seems like a simple fact to establish for a start.
He should have said, “Hands up! Don’t shoot!”
And does the ‘15’ on the hood mean that at least 15 shots were fired?
(I think the Pontiac is probably from the mid 70’s.)
I don’t know what transpired, but officers have legitimate concerns too. They get hardly any respect these days. Folks are a lot more inclined to give them guff than ever before.
You can argue they brought it on themselves, but our culture has changed too. There are people in our society who think they should be able to do anything they want, no matter if it’s a violation of the law or not. And those people would rather draw on an officer than acknowledge their own guilt.
Some guy waves a gun, or ignores officers attempts to get him to drop the gun, what are they supposed to do.
I don’t think you’d be willing to take one in the gut rather than take action against a guy that wasn’t complying with your demands.
These officers were protecting and serving by taking the woman home.
I searched 1969 Pontiac Lemans and the photo looks pretty close. That one’s pretty rusty.
