Just hours after Republican presidential candidate Donald Trump made a controversial comment about 2008 presidential candidate John McCain's military record, South Carolina Sen. Trump, in a campaign visit in Iowa, told a crowd of supporters he was not a fan of McCain.
He was a war hero because he was captured, Trump said. I like people who werent captured.
In a series of tweets posted to his Twitter account, Graham said McCain "went through hell" during his service in Vietnam when he was captured by the Viet Cong and didn't deserve that type of commentary.
"If there was ever any doubt that @realDonaldTrump should not be our commander in chief, this stupid statement should end all doubt," Graham said. "If there was ever any doubt that he should not be the #GOP standard bearer, his growing mountain of stupid statements should end all doubt."

Graham, South Carolina's senior senator, is also running for president. The senator was one of McCain's staunchest supporters during the 2008 presidential campaign.
Trump announced his candidacy for president several weeks ago and has been surging in the polls recently.
