Gov. Scott Walker and other Republican presidential hopefuls have finally had it with Donald Trump.
Wisconsin's Republican governor had repeatedly said he wouldn't criticize the billionaire real estate mogul or other 2016 GOP candidates, but that changed Saturday after Trump took his feud with Arizona Sen. John McCain to a new level.
"He's not a war hero," Trump told the crowd at the Family Leadership Summit in Ames, Iowa. "He was a war hero because he was captured. I like people who weren't captured."
Walker promptly tweeted, "Just told a crowd in Sioux City: @SenJohnMcCain is an American hero."
And Kirsten Kukowski, a Walker campaign spokeswoman, followed up with another tweet adding that Walker said "I unequivocally denounce him" for attacking an American hero.
Other Republican candidates were also quick to condemn Trump's comments.
"John McCain is an American hero," Louisiana Gov. Bobby Jindal tweeted. "After Donald Trump spends six years in a POW camp, he can weigh in on John McCain's service.
Former Texas Gov. Rick Perry, Florida Gov. Jeb Bush and others joined in with swift, sharp criticism of Trump's latest attack on McCain.
Walker had vowed not to criticize, or try to speak for, Trump or other GOP contenders.
"What I've said is that Donald Trump can speak for himself," Walker told reporters after addressing supporters at an Iowa ballpark Friday. "I'm going to answer questions about my positions, not about Donald Trump's or Jeb Bush's or Marco Rubio or anybody else out there."
But on Saturday, Walker called for Trump to apologize to McCain.. "He needs to apologize to Senator McCain and all the other men and women who have worn the uniform," Walker told reporters following a campaign stop in Sioux City. "It's just a disgrace."

Trump won't have said it if McCain was a solid conservative.
I just watched Governor Walker’s appearance on the Luntz show.
He was pitch perfect!
I am sorry he elected to bring Mr. Trump, but Mr. Trump is his rival. “Politics ain’t bean bag.”
Scott Walker is entitled to his opinion and he’s busy campaigning so he didn’t hear Mr. Trump’s entire answer to Luntz’s stupid question.
As much as almost everyone here wants to believe that Senator Cruz will be the beneficiary of Mr. Trump, let me state right now, that I think Governor Walker has it in the bag.
I state this as a #1 Cruz supporter, who loves Trump with Walker as my 3rd choice.
“IMO, Walker just cut his nose off!”
Yep, bad move. Trump knows folks who can send slimeballs like Brad Dayspring whimpering to the exits.
Predicting the future is hard because it hasn’t happened yet.
I know, that’s why I said, “I think.”
Well, well. Judging from the explosion among the Media hacks, the GOPe, the “Twitterverse,” etc.,(I estimate 10x times the response to Trump’s “McCain ain’t no hero” remark than that of any of Obama’s recent tyranny, the Dr. Mengele @ Planned Parenthood, the Islamofascist slaughtering of US Marines, or any other recent news event)it looks like McCain will have the last laugh on the “crazies,” the “wacko-birds,” and the “hobbits.”
Yes, the John McCain who has stabbed conservatives in the back for 30 years(who included Ted Cruz as one of the “wacko-birds” BTW)and gladly kissed Obama’s behind rises to new heights as the “Wronged War Hero” and “The Media/GOPe Who Loved Him.”
Way to go John. You win. And we lose. Same as it ever was.
You beat me to it! Exactly!
(PS - My online gaming and fantasy football screen name is “Sir Peesalot”)
Did you watch Trump being interviewed ?
Name 1 thing Trump has said which is a lie...I will hold my breath!
The real clowns are the RINO’s who have sold the conservatives down the river for 25 years.
YES, on you-tube afterward.
I HATE THE MEDIA AND THE GOP!
ALL distortion!!
I’m about to watch it again.
I’m behind on C-SPAN!
I think Trump’s poll numbers are about to go higher!
The clowns and RINO’s have been exposed by DT!
Onyx, I just spoke to the Donald about your post, and I told him how your were normally very sane, but he was having none of it.
Sorry, he’s not taking you back and he told me to send you this:

(Of course, President Cruz forgives you). -:)
“I like people who weren’t captured”
Come to think of it, I also like Military personnel that were not captured.
Is there a problem here I don’t see ??
I, too listened to his segment of the Freedom Summit. The reason I think Trump will handle him easily is that Walker’s rhetoric on jobs does not match his record.
Wisconsin is at the bottom of the pile, 50th, in new business start ups. It is 44th in private sector job growth. Wisconsin is losing its middle class faster than any other state and lost more jobs in May than any other state.
When Scott Walker became governor, they were at 69% labor participation and are 68% now. True, unemployment rate is down, but it is questionable as it is with the national figures, as to how much of that is attributable to folks just giving up and dropping off the rolls.
The WEDC that Walker created to replace the State Commerce Dept. has been an embarrassing failure that even the GOP in the state no longer defends . The agency lost 2 jobs for every one job created, mostly to outsourcing done by Walker donors who were paid millions in unsecured loans which were never paid back. The agency is now under investigation by the Republican D.A.’s office. BTW, this is not a part of any John Doe investigation and resulted from the disturbing results of an independent official Audit.
Walker promised 250,00 jobs in his first term. Now into
his second term he has only delivered about half that.
No way are the other candidates going to not hit him hard on his record. Trump has already alluded to it, but hasn’t gotten into details...Yet.
Don’t tell a certain person’s “wife” or you’ll get a tongue-lashing.
I agree that Sen. McCain is too liberal. If Trump doesn’t like McCain, Trump should have listed the issues on which he and McCain disagree.
