Gov. Scott Walker and other Republican presidential hopefuls have finally had it with Donald Trump.
Wisconsin's Republican governor had repeatedly said he wouldn't criticize the billionaire real estate mogul or other 2016 GOP candidates, but that changed Saturday after Trump took his feud with Arizona Sen. John McCain to a new level.
"He's not a war hero," Trump told the crowd at the Family Leadership Summit in Ames, Iowa. "He was a war hero because he was captured. I like people who weren't captured."
Walker promptly tweeted, "Just told a crowd in Sioux City: @SenJohnMcCain is an American hero."
And Kirsten Kukowski, a Walker campaign spokeswoman, followed up with another tweet adding that Walker said "I unequivocally denounce him" for attacking an American hero.
Other Republican candidates were also quick to condemn Trump's comments.
"John McCain is an American hero," Louisiana Gov. Bobby Jindal tweeted. "After Donald Trump spends six years in a POW camp, he can weigh in on John McCain's service.
Former Texas Gov. Rick Perry, Florida Gov. Jeb Bush and others joined in with swift, sharp criticism of Trump's latest attack on McCain.
Walker had vowed not to criticize, or try to speak for, Trump or other GOP contenders.
"What I've said is that Donald Trump can speak for himself," Walker told reporters after addressing supporters at an Iowa ballpark Friday. "I'm going to answer questions about my positions, not about Donald Trump's or Jeb Bush's or Marco Rubio or anybody else out there."
But on Saturday, Walker called for Trump to apologize to McCain.. "He needs to apologize to Senator McCain and all the other men and women who have worn the uniform," Walker told reporters following a campaign stop in Sioux City. "It's just a disgrace."

Walker just lost a point on my score sheet.
Yes, Trump will score since it was in the context of talking about McCain.
at this precise point in the last primary cycle, the leader in the olls was . . . rick perry. then it was herman cain. after that is was newt gingrich.
it’s a long process. polls a year out are utterly meaningless.
I don’t disagree....why is getting captured heroic? Another thread said he refused early release because he didn’t want to face his father and grandfather.
Who knows...but his actions since coming home have all been self-serving.
Problem is, a lot of people won’t see the distinction...I’ve been on various threats today an some people are really angry at DT for calling out the saint.
“Perhaps Cruz will be the winner here.
I suspect The Donald has gone too far.”
From your keyboard to God’s ears! That’s what I’m hoping. Problem is, the average voter is not aware that Cruz has been echoing Trump’s immigration positions.
Look at all the GOP Presidential wannabes dancing to the tune called by the media.
Sickening.
Its down to Trump and Cruz for me.
Ditto.
Might I add that Ronald and Nancy Reagan despised McCain and utterly refused to have anything to do with him after he dumped his first wife.
Walker is about to find out that the arena he has just stepped into is not the same as the off year election cycle he has been used to playing in.
Trump is not playing around. Trump is a Lot tougher and has fought lots of opponents far more savvy than anybody Walker has ever faced. Additionally Trump is genuinely Smart, as is Cruz.
Trump and Cruz are going to be schooling a bunch of these establishment chumps on what a real fighter looks like.
It's always in doubt with a "Conservative" Republican. Only with party imperatives do you find out if you have a Palin or a Santorum.
Walker promptly tweeted, "Just told a crowd in Sioux City: @SenJohnMcCain is an American hero."
That is true, Scott Walker, until you hear the rest of the story. You just might change your mind.
Take your time before opening your mouth about John McCain, please.
Luntz is a tool, he thinks he is Bernays in reincarnate.
Luntz is the one responsible for the term "climate change" because "Globull warming" was becoming a joke.
Like I said, a Bernays wannabee
Yup, Walker is officially dead in the water now.
It’s Trump/Cruz
yes, first 5 minutes is all I could stomach, also.
Cruz is wise to let this media “shiny object” pass.
The others are identifying themselves as media patsies.
Yes very much so. But only after McShame goes to the family’s of the 136 he killed and 161 injured sailors he is directly responsible for. He was having a little fun and did a wet start of the jet he was in on the flight deck. It’s all on film so please don’t say it is not so. If you come from a family of Admirals things get over looked. Also the wing commander said when he was shot down thank G_D as he was running out of aircraft.
I think I need a new laptop....these keys are way sticky.....arrgh!
IMO, Walker just cut his nose off!
