It's an unforced error, completely unnecessary. Was Hillary a POW ? Trump is entertaining but his unforced errors benefit those candidates who are better fielders, and appear more statesman like.
Cruz is my first choice for Resident.
Trump could have qualified his statement by using a medal standard as a filter (Congressional Medal of Honor, Purple Heart, etc.), but the entire episode is an error. The way to treat Jhn McCain is to thank him for his long service and move on. Trump should have ignored him, ignore others like him, and concentrate on Hillary. He needs to stay focused because if he is serious about his goal to restore this country he needs to gain the consent of all brands of Republicsns. The way to do that is not to attack other Republicans but to portray himself as most likely to defeat Hillary and restore the Republic. Like Reagan he had to be civil and open to compromise that has a conservative slant (65/35 would be realistic). Of course, Trump is not completely conservative. He is, however, completely American, a good communicator, and a proven business success story with a brand and New York moxie.
