Obama pushes to extend gun background checks to Social Security

Seeking tighter controls over firearm purchases, the Obama administration is pushing to ban Social Security beneficiaries from owning guns if they lack the mental capacity to manage their own affairs, a move that could affect millions whose monthly disability payments are handled by others.

The push is intended to bring the Social Security Administration in line with laws regulating who gets reported to the National Instant Criminal Background Check System, or NICS, which is used to prevent gun sales to felons, drug addicts, immigrants in the country illegally and others.

A potentially large group within Social Security are people who, in the language of federal gun laws, are unable to manage their own affairs due to "marked subnormal intelligence, or mental illness, incompetency, condition, or disease."

First time use of the word in the United States was when Woodrow Wilson appointed a czar for the War Industries Board.
Next up was FDR who made extensive use of czars for transportation, production, shipping and synthetic rubber.
Not to be outdone, Republicans wanted a food czar to control production and distribution of foodstuffs.

Nixon had a drug and an energy czar.
Remember the even day and odd day purchasing of gas?
That was the energy czar at work.

George W Bush had a czar or two during his time.

Obama has made such an extensive use of czars that even Democrat Senators Byrd, Feingold and Feinstein have questioned the need for them.

Czars have been with us a while.

You said, “Yes, the next President, and he MUST be a Republican.....”

The next President must be a Conservative..we must differentiate between the two. Many low info folks assume that Conservatives are GOP-e. It is up to us to make sure that the public knows the difference between Conservatives and the socialist Republicans.

“Many” doctors will say that anyone above a certain age...

has some “dementia”....
wasn’t true about my Mom... nurse said,”the doctor might have been drinking” ...

the drunk doctor in “long term care” after a hospital stay

nearly killed my Mom with blood pressure meds that drained her of sodium...

My Good sister challenged the “doctor” and said...She wasn’t that way yesterday...

When the real doctors got involved... a nurse was squeezing a bag of saline into my Mom...and the specialist said...

there is a high mortality rate for some one that low in sodium...

When many doctors do believe that anyone over a certain age has some “dementia” then say good bye to your firearms !

Mom felt safer with her firearms until she passed at 92...
Sharp as a Brass Tack to the end. ( ; )

If and when the family decided that Mom was a danger to herself or others...we would have removed the firearms.

"Grandpa died last week and now he's buried beneath the rocks.

Everyone still talks about how badly they were shocked.

But me, I expected it to happen.

I knew he'd lost control when he built a fire on Main St

And shot it full of holes."

I would rather forgo mental health care than risk my right to keep and bear arms. I hope most of the elderly feel the same. I would rather have older Americans with guns, even if those Americans are not entirely stable, than face a country in which the only firearms belong to Obama’s “civilian national security force that’s just as powerful, just as strong, just as well-funded” as the military. We’ve seen that America (in Sanford, Ferguson, and then Baltimore), and it’s not pretty for decent people.

Thanks, I was no aware of all that. CZARS is such a horrible word, it denotes dictator to me, and possible that is just what they intend to do.

Why isn't a simple title suffice? Judge, officer, Director, manager, etc......simple and tells us who is charge.

Going forth, I would like to have Trump or Cruz come out and say they will appoint NO CZARS...........

....NICS, which is used to prevent gun sales to felons, drug addicts, immigrants in the country illegally and others.

That piece of criminal garbage who murdered the beautiful and intelligent woman in SF, "found" his gun, left out carelessly by another worthless socialist, someone with the Bureau of Land Mismanagement.

And not too much longer, when Obama has all our medical records on government servers, as required by Obamacare, NICS gets to dig through all that.

That’s all it takes. A pen and a phone and a new regulation. No one can say anything about it and McConnel will still write checks to enforce them.

Sure you can ban the word Czar. But they’ll simply use the word Tsar instead.

Is this the demographic that is committing the gun crimes?

No, but it is the demographic that will stand up and resist a complete takeover of the government.

This is all about subverting due process. IF any citizen is to have his/her life/liberty individual right to self defense taken away THEN such requires individual due process NOT an arbitrary bureaucratic ruling en masse.

The argument currently is that government has gotten too big and the President needs a czar to help run the government.
I thought that is what the President has a cabinet for.

Government too big?
Simple, let the states take back the authority DC has stolen from them.

Presidents like czars because they are never vetted by Congress.
No questions, no answers.
Exactly what tyrants like FDR and Obama want.

How about drug tests for EBT and food stamp recipients.

I would extend that to ALL of Congress, including the pResident.

Or “have you ever overindulged in, well, anything? You cannot control yourself.

Or have you ever used tobacco? Yes, you must be mentally ill.

This will not end with senior citizens. Everything this president does indicates his hostility toward America.

Why does Obama expend his effort going after Americans and vets instead of illegal immigrants?

Every American deserves to know who among us is receiving disability, food stamps, corporate welfare, Obama phones, welfare, etc, because we taxpayers are funding it. But they have no right to know if we are armed, because we paid and it is our right.
