If someone's career was ended because they said they would not fire on American citizens they should be recommissioned with all back-pay including any denied promotions. If there is a single record of someone saying they would fire if ordered to do so they should be relieved of duty immediately and drummed out of the military.
I believe that in about 2007 or 2008, there were revisions to John F’n Kerry’s discharge status, undoubtedly due to his position as US senator. He of course never released his DD281(?) form for publication.
