Army chief of staff Gen. Ray Odierno said on Friday he has no plans to arm recruiters or add security patrols to military recruitment centers in the wake of the Islamist terror attacks on unarmed, unguarded military offices in Chattanooga, Tennessee on Thursday. Odierno basically said he doesn’t trust his troops to handle their weapons properly.
Also on Friday, the Marine Corps ordered recruiters to not wear their uniforms at work for ‘force protection.’

Odierno made his comments at a breakfast with reporters, according to the AP.
“”Security at military recruiting and reserve centers will be reviewed in the aftermath of the deadly shooting in Tennessee, but it’s too early to say whether the facilities should have security guards or other increased protection, the Army’s top officer said Friday.
“A day after a gunman shot and killed four Marines and wounded three other people in Chattanooga, Gen. Ray Odierno, chief of staff of the Army, told reporters that arming troops in those offices could cause more problems than it might solve.
“”I think we have to be careful about over-arming ourselves, and I’m not talking about where you end up attacking each other,” Odierno said during a morning breakfast. Instead, he said, it’s more about “accidental discharges and everything else that goes along with having weapons that are loaded that causes injuries.””
…”In the wake of previous shootings at military facilities, the services have reviewed and strengthened security precautions at the centers. But most of those involve safety precautions and the need to be aware and watchful of surroundings.
“Odierno said that there are currently no plans to have security personnel posted at recruiting centers, but added that there will be a review. He said a notice went out Thursday to all Army locations reminding them of protection measures.”
On Friday evening ABC News Pentagon reporter Luis Martinez reported on Twitter the Marine Corps ordered recruiters to not wear their uniforms at work.

...They could learn how to bakeThey could bake wedding cakes. Jihadis dont tend to get married so the marines wouldnt get to actually bake cakes.
Not johnny jihad, but you can bet homos would demand the Marines bake wedding cakes for them.
BFLR
Guess the fags in the white hut never considered all the signage.
Fools. Damn fools!
Pathetic...
Sombody needs to be cashiered. Immediately. A total dishonorable performance of duties. Hide in shame.
How about fairy dust?
Ho w many of you want your sons serving with queers just looking for someone to be offended by?
I wish my son was out every day. It is miserable. Good men are being persecuted horribly every day.
Oh I have hope. It’s July. 18 months
Shouldn’t Marines know how to maintain a personal firearm?
Long past time to get the ‘60s and ‘70s hippies OUT of government.
I pulled over in a rough area of Anaheim yesterday to use a restroom at a well known chain fast food place. Their security guard was ARMED.
But we can’t arm our recruiting centers for SOLDIERS?
What’s nuttier is that if ET had been posting nonsense merely to wind people up, he underestimated the absurdity of an actual order.
If he had claimed that Marine recruiters were ordered not to wear uniforms, that would have been.. crazy!

from the second article:
“... Ahmed and Sadequee trained in the woods of Dawson County with paintball guns and later traveled to Pakistan, where they discussed joining terrorist training camps...”
The Gainesville Recruiting Center is not very far from Dawsonville. It is open, close to the road with parking spaces right in front. If there are more jihadi wannabes in the area (I have heard there were. Nothing specific. Maybe just local speculation) the Recruiting Center in Gainesville would be ripe for the picking.
I don't blame him for taking a firearm, especially after all of the warnings we have heard about lone wolf attacks. But I am a civilian and my opinion means squat to the military.
Unfortunately, he had to shoot himself in the leg. I would be willing to bet he was but 1 of a large, large number of recruiters showing up to work armed today.
Interesting perspective.
Every Marine is trained to employ and maintain the weapon(s) assigned to his specific billet in his unit's Table of Organization, and those weapons are issued to each Marine by his unit. Pistol qualification and issue is MOS-specific below the rank of Staff Sergeant, so making it universal would require a major change in training, procurement, distribution and custody procedures -- all with rippling opportunity costs in budgeting, logistics and training time. Even if such a sweeping change was ordered today, it couldn't happen overnight.
good grief. It isn’t rocket science.
Give the men sidearms.
A more interesting perspective is to start deportation of all Muslims back to their nation of identification.
They don’t love and identify America, let’s help them to be happy.
“Clean house, and dump every damned DoD civilian appointee who has been engaging in destroying our military over the same time frame.”
Sounds good to me. I’ve come to think that our bureaucrats are a greatly underestimated enemy.
