KXLY recently reported that Patrick Rushing, mayor of Airway Heights, Wash., is facing increased pressure to resign after a Facebook comment about the Obama family was criticized by some locals as racist.
“Gorilla face Michelle,” he wrote in the now-deleted post, “can’t disagree with that. The woman is not attractive except to monkey man Barack. Check out them ears. LOL.” When the backlash that followed reached city hall, five of six council members present at a recent meeting voted to ask Rushing to step down. Airway Heights Police Chief and Acting City Manager Lee Bennett explained why local leaders felt the need to take action.
