For years Arizonans have been looking for a viable alternative to Senator John McCain. Now, they may have their chance to vote him out of office.
Earlier this week Arizona State Senator Kelli Ward officially announced she is running against McCain for his U.S. Senate seat in 2016. More from the Arizona Republic:
Kelli Ward, a Republican state senator from Lake Havasu City, on Tuesday officially entered the U.S. Senate primary against veteran incumbent John McCain.
In a post on her website Tuesday morning, Ward, a 46-year-old doctor of osteopathic medicine in her second term at the Arizona Legislature, said: "I'm running for the U.S. Senate to give you a real choice! Arizonans deserve a Senator who will fight for their values, and not just go along with the Beltway crowd."
Ward had been formally exploring getting into the race since April and, given the frequency of her attacks on McCain in her fund-raising e-mails, her announcement comes as no surprise to political observers.
From Ward's campaign website:
It has been my lifes honor to represent the people of Arizonas Fifth Legislative District as their senator. I understand and truly appreciate the trust and support they have given me to do what is right. But when I look at whats happening in our federal government, I know Arizonans need new representation in the U.S. Senate, and thats why Im running.
Failures of leadership have led to the problems we face in our state and our country: open borders, over 90 million Americans out of work, lost insurance and skyrocketing costs under ObamaCare, and a federal budget that only goes up. Its time to change that.

Last night conservative talk radio host and author Mark Levin unloaded on McCain for his failure to fully oppose Obama's deal with Iran.
With the right backing and campaign strategy, Ward certainly has a good chance of winning. I look forward to watching this race move forward.
Yes ... I am proud to be what John McQueeg calls a "wacko bird".
We’ll see I suppose. But I’m not in AZ so can’t really say much but someone said yesterday there are rino tendencies. I can’t say one way or the other. Our (r) senator turned out to be pretty disappointing as did our (r) house rep.
She’d better be prepared for GOP shenanigans and dirty tricks like the ones they test-ran on Chris McDaniel in Mississippi. They got away with it here, and they are have no shame in going even bigger on the next conservative. She and her people had really better be prepared to deal with this. Whatever they pulled on behalf of senile old Thad Cochran, they will pull double on behalf of GOP stalwart (all the for the Party! The Party is all!) John McCain, with the advantage (?) that McCain is only nuts, not senile. Or that may be a disadvantage to them, depending on how worked up he gets and shoots his stupid mouth off. Or has his congenitally air-headed daughter do so.
Juan McManiac admitted he was broken by the VC. Question is, who put him back together?

um .... John ... I overheard these guys talking about killing me .... John?
John McCain said Trump was stirring up the ‘crazies’... You know - the people who want to live in a country with secure borders...
Anyone would be better...
The same people who, in my opinion, have owned him since his release, and, by delivering him to the DNC, have dictated his voting record and liberal tendencies.
I hope Kelli Ward wins the primaries.
In fact, even a Dem getting him out of office might be better than leaving McAmnesty there for another six years.
Poll, Gravis Marketing conducted for One America News , 844 GOP Primary voters, Registered Voters, not Likely Voters
Ward 45%
McCain 36%
And among 1,433 total voters for the general election
Ward 43%
Kilpatrick (D) 38%
McCain 48%
Kilpatrick 35%
I noticed Gunzberger editorialized that polling data on his website. If it’s remotely true, McQueeg is toast. I absolutely 100% support Kelli Ward to take him down.
Dr. Kelli Ward is the real deal and I am proud to call her a friend. I would like to bring her here for a Free Republic online town hall. We used to do things like that here. But I’m also ask everyone to come up with some money. She is going to need it in this battle because the National Republican Party is going to throw everything at her. It’s up to Jim Robinson. If he says go for it, we’ll set it up.
Kelly Ward seems like a great lady. I wish this wasn’t a consideration, but is she electable?
Dr. Ward is already a State Senator. She is certainly electable. The state isn’t going to send a Democrat in a Presidential year (unless you count McQueeg).
See post 12, same poll has her leading the rat, albeit by a smaller margin than does McCain.
Unless she’s a Sharron Angle style loser, and if you see any signs of that please let me know, I don’t see her losing the general. McCain is a tough old goat, he’s not napping like Mike Castle was against O’Donnell, no weak sister is gonna beat him. If she can get past him, I like her chances ‘ganist the rat. I don’t see Kilpatrick as having any great crossover appeal, AZ is voting GOP for President.
My only concern would be McCain spitefully trying to knife her in the back if she upends him.
I’d hoped for a bigger name but it appears that ship has sailed.
Why a bigger name? I am tired of the “bigger names” in the conservative movement who have done squat. I want all of them gone. Send President Trump some new warriors to take back America.

Because a bigger name would be more likely to win. Incumbent Senators are not easy to beat.
