A Japanese parliamentary committee approved legislation that would expand the role of Japans military Wednesday after Prime Minister Shinzo Abes ruling bloc forced the vote in the face of vocal protests from opposition lawmakers and citizens.
Opposition lawmakers tried to stop the committee vote as hundreds of citizens protested outside.
The unpopular legislation was crafted after Abes Cabinet adopted a new security policy last year that reinterpreted a part of Japans post-World War II constitution that only permitted the nations military to use force for its self-defense. The bills in question would allow Japan to also defend aggression against its alliesa concept called collective self-defense.

Good.
You are aware of Abe’s membership in a State Shinto revanchist organization, I hope? Not enough is said about the Shinto Association of Spiritual Leadership on here and what they’re about.
I have no idea about Abe or his organization. Fill me in. I just responded to what he actually said in his comment. How would I know about him, so you tell me about him, as you seem to know.
Oh wait, I thought you were talking about a comment by Sushiman that I responded to in another thread. I’m getting tired, so I better go to sleep. However, I am interested in what you have to say about Abe and the organization he belongs to. Please fill me in.
The SAS is pushing to re-establish state Shinto, just for starters; their predecessors created the whole “emperor worship” status quo that made Tojo such an authority during WWII, basically making the Japanese military capable of virtually any act. That organization is particularly all about either modifying Article 9 of Japan’s postwar constitution or abolishing it altogether.
From another perspective, Obama’s actually helping the rise of that state religion again, by his failing to honor US commitments to presently-allied nations like Japan, Philippines and others, especially with respect to Chinese aggression. This of course creates the “need” for a modification of Article 9.
Thanks for the info. I’ll have to read up on this. It interests me.
I’ve been to Toyko a few times, in and out of Narita AP several times. This limited exposure to Japan doesn’t make me an expert on the Current Japanese psychic but based upon my observations of Japanese youth I don’t see any danger of a rebirth of Japanese militarism and the Japanese Co-Prosperity Sphere. So, think we can relax about that, lol :)
The populace - especially the young - can be easily programmed by the government / government media complex . I have lived in Japan for 30 years , and am well aware of this fact . Remember the kamikaze ?
Not only are the Japanese suffering from a demographic collapse but they are also breeding youth uninterested in sex. The nation will implode.
Well, I’m not quite old enough to remember the Kamikaze attacks. However, being somewhat an insomniac I watch a lot of late night/early morning History Channel and Military Channel documentaries. So, I suppose I vicariously do somewhat remember :) Frankly I don’t see a corollary between WWII Japanese youth and today’s Japanese youth. If anything each is the antithesis of the other.

What I am saying is that the youth of today could fairly easily be programmed into fighting mode if the need arose just as they were in WW2 . My father in law fought in that war and told me that the majority of men didn’t want to fight but felt it was their duty to do so . He was one that thought Japan was crazy to take on the USA .
Well, maybe so. You may have a better feel of the situation than me. But, during the period leading up to WWII and then during the war, the Japanse populace looked at their emperor as a living God and the military was actually in control of the government presumably executing his will as Bushido was the guiding code amongst the officer corp. I don’t see any such blind alligence in today’s Japan.
