Congressman Todd Young (R-IN9) released a web video on Sunday in which he announced his intention to run for Indiana's open U.S. Senate seat in 2016.
"Everything in my life, I owe to God, my family, the Naval Academy, and the Marine Corps," Young says in the video. "The best way I can think of to give back is to ensure that every Hoosier family enjoys a better future. That's why I'm running for U.S. Senate."
The video highlights the people and events that have shaped Young's life up to this point, including family members and a Marine Corps colleague.
In addition to the video, his campaign website also features a page at http://toddyoung.org/whyimrunning that lays out his reasons for running.
Earlier this week, Young's campaign reported raising over $1 million during the previous three months, a record for a federal candidate in Indiana during an off-year. He'll begin the campaign with over $2 million in the bank.

This complicate things. I remember in 2010, when the conservative vote was split between Marlin Stutzman and John Hostettler, enabling establishment hack Dan Coates to win the primary. History could repeat itself.
Well we managed to get “Obama Joe” Donnelly elected last time.
Maybe old Baron Hill will luck out similarly this time.
“Well we managed to get Obama Joe Donnelly elected last time.

That’s exactly what I’m thinking.
Todd is good congressman. Was hoping he stays around for awhile
Is this to fill Dan Coats’ seat?
Yes Coats is retiring.
Obama Joe Donnelly is in until 2018.
Actually in another way if Young wins - he could be matching up against Baron Hill, the Democrat congressman he ousted for the House seat he now holds.
Wouldn’t be surprised to see Mike Sodrell toss his hat into the ring with the 9th becoming open.
Baron Hill ran extraordinarily dishonest campaigns again him and Jean Leising - and Todd Young for that matter, but Young seemed to more effectively counter attack.
District lines changes also made a difference
The field should be cleared for Stutzman after having it stolen from him in 2010 by Coats. Young, if he wants to run, should wait to have a go at Donnelly in 2018.
I don’t think any of these candidates are gonna say any incredibly stupid *hit about rape, so Baronet Knoll won’t be joining Red Joe.
As for the conservative vote being split in the primary like it was 6 years when that desultory joke John Hostettler decided to c*ck everything up, the good news is Eric Holcomb ain’t a former US Senator with 100% name recognition like Coats was, he’s a party suit who’s never run his own race before.
RINO Young needs to lose, and lose badly..
Really, because his voting record says Congressman Young is a Boehner ally, and RINO.
Actually, the changes in the district lines went into effect for the 2012 elections, and Young unseated Hill in 2010, so redustricting had nothing to do with it. The 2012 redistricting changes will improve the GOP’s odds of holding the seat next year, though.
It sure is. I wish that Coates had stayed in D.C. and that Marlin Stutzman been the nominee.
The latest development, state Senator Brent Waltz will run to succeed Todd Young in the House. He may face primary opposition from fellow state Senator Erin Houchin, ex-Congressman Mike Sodrel, and perhaps state AG Greg Zoeller.
I figured Sodrel would be on the list.
Sodrel should probably stay retired.
I’m not worried about the seat this year but when a guy is 1 for 4 and got his clock cleaned the final time....
One of the two top-tier Republicans that announced for IN-09 is the state’s AG, Zoeller. I thought that he’d be a good bet not to screw up and to hold the seat in November, but then I saw his picture. Guess what he has in common with Mike Sodrel?
Don’t Hoosier Republicans know that Indiana ain’t North Dakota?
